Woke up Thursday morning at about 05:00 to my left calf muscle going into full spasm, rode that out and started to nod back off and within half an hour my right calf did the same, both are still feeling pretty tight and I'm not enjoying it, other leg muscles are tight and feeling twitchy too now while I try to rest and get liquids down today...
I'm pretty sure the cause is a busy week working away, on my feet not getting enough hydration (and maybe a couple of beers of an evening that I wouldn't normally).
The thing is though I've not had that type of crampy spasm for a bit over a decade and to have two within half an hour has me worried that something else is going on...
Anyone want to offer reassurance that I'm just a bit dried out and not suffering some sort of neurological disaster?
Night cramps was the first major symptom of me getting covid last month.
Lasted about a week, one hamstring still not right.
Take some magnesium supplements today, if I've overdone it and got night cramps that usually improves the recovery.
It can even be preventative if I remember to take some before bed.

That's interesting, might be worth reporting to Zoe study if it's still going.

Now that is interesting.
I was ill twice last month, first a 'minor' headcold and second a full on flue. I however tested negative for Cv19.
I did though a week before also wake up to leg cramp...
hmmm
I get them from time to time. No pattern at all.
I have pretty big calf muscles if it makes any difference.
A bad one (pretty rare thankfully) can leave a bruise/lump for a bit, feels like the muscle is trying to make a bid for freedom.
I get these intermittently - they can be reet sore. I can sometimes head them off by pointing my foot up just before it goes full spasm - it's a weird feeling and not always possible as you are half asleep, but it can completely diffuse the cramp ime.
Sounds like I should maybe do an LFT although otherwise I'm feeling fine, I do think dehydration is the prime candidate TBH.
I get these quite a lot, especially after a big day out on the bike.
Slightly TMI but I normally sleep in my birthday suit. I find wearing some PJ bottoms helps stave off cramps, so not sure if my legs cramp up when I get cold legs.

I'll often get them when I'm bivvying, but normally I'll have done a big day out too.
Obviously I need more research 🙂
Actually I was in a not very warm premier Inn bed at the time, could have been the cold as well then. Both legs still feel a bit torqued up, I'm maybe going to pummel them with my massage gun in a bit see if that helps.
I’ve started getting toe cramp in my little toe and the one next to it. happens pretty much every time I exercise and just sporadically in general. Very odd, looks like my toes are broken and hurts like a SOB
There are you tube vids if you want to see what cramp actually looks like if you let it run. Pretty freaky.
It's lack of hydration that gives me cramp. Tonic water that has a bit of quinine is very good relief.
If i;ve pushed a day beyond the usual ride, i get them in my thighs. Back, front, left, right. ****ing horrendous. It’s like my femurs have been snapped then red hot pokers shoved in them.
You have my sympathies!
Worst ever was after a massive day, with lots of climbing and descending. We got on the train home, sat down in a nice quiet carriage, me and my riding buddy with a can of beer and a packet of crisps. then both thighs went full spasm. At the same time. I was just standing there, immobile, kinda hunched over, screaming, as Pete just pissed himself laughing and the one other passenger quietly got up and left for the next carriage.
After what seems like 5hrs (actually about 2mins), it eases off, but **** me it’s awful.
Oh, yeah, a banana and fizzy water helps me, almost instantly, which cannot be biologically/chemically right, but it works!
Well I've just tapped out a steady 25 mile road ride and nothing went snap, right calf is still slightly bruised feeling but they are functioning OK for now, tomorrow is a busy day in my feet with the family so I'm just going to keep drinking plenty to avoid dehydration...
With me it is cold and wet conditions that set it off, especially if I am out of condition. Perhaps my worst (funniest for others) attack was after a long wet caving trip in the Mendips. No wetsuit, just a slightly too samll set of overalls over a HellyHansen rompersuit. Driving down Cheddar Gorge later on a monumentally horrendous set of spasms hit me and merged into an enormous long event. I had to pull over by the showcaves and my mate Mark had to massage my thighs from behind as I leant against the wall, tears streaming down my cheeks. I can laugh about it now, just.
Staying warm and hydrated really helps, as does keeping my legs straight. I usually get a flickery twitching in the affected muscles immediately prior to an attack at which point it is imperative that I move immediately and stretch out the affected muscle. It is almost always my right adductor longus and, Oh Boy! when it goes it goes. SO painful!
I suffered calf cramp for years, since playing football as a kid. I used to have glucose on the sideline to stave it off. Worst I ever had was a double calf cramp as I dived to tackle someone in a rugby match. Laying there like a beached whale until teammates could stretch them out for me!
Pretty sure it’s electrolyte balance that need sorting. Cycling barely impacts my
leg muscles compared to other sports for some reason.
I have suffered from really bad cramps for the last year or so after riding - esp when in bed sleeping- tried cooling down stretches, a theragun ( which helped).
And then started getting cramps during riding!
However I have resorted to electrolyte tablets - and bugger me , they work!
