Went over on my ankle yesterday and this morning it's agony. Sporting a righteous cankle and feels a bit like when I broke my scaphoid, throbby and aching pain.

Does it need an x-ray?

Just l👀king at that I'd say yes. IANAD.

Can you weight bear on it❓

Excuse the pun, but do you have a walk in centre with x-ray available near you❓ no need for A&E if you do.

Minor injuries if unsure but be prepared to be told to go straight to hospital
So take a fully charged phone, magazine, packed lunch and sense of humour

There are the "ottowa rules" for checking if an xray is needed which I would expect the person assessing will use. I'd be looking at minor injuries for that ankle tho I think

Still not sure? have a read of the Ottowa rules

Dropped some ibuprofen and can shuffle about so not bothering. Extra Covid risk and that. TJ had a look at that and can bear weight now, couldn't put on the ground at all first thing this morning but it's eased off a bit now

I would still go I think because if its a sprain its a bad one and they would probably strap it up.

Didn't you post an image on another thread last night?
At the time, I was thinking "that'll be alright give it time".
Looking at that pic now I'd say hey it looked at asap. It's the way the swellings progressing along the for to the toes and also up the leg to the shin that worries me.

Now, I really hope they are two different images or it just shows my judgement can be really random.
Best of luck anyway.

When I snapped my achilles my lower leg went like that, although it did it straight away and was like concrete from the calf down.

If you struggle to walk and it hurts like hell to go anywhere near tip toes, get yourself into A+E asap.

Or you could ring 111. I did about 6 weeks ago as the same ankle swelled up for no real reason (hadn't gone over). They asked a load of questions and then referred me the same day (Sat morning) to a local pharmacist in a chemist.

He said if it was still swollen in two days to ring the GP. It was, I did and got some antibiotics for an infection. Mines still not right although the procedure of going through 111 was very slick and saved A+E.

I'd strap it up and give it another day, unless it's really really troubling you. I mean, what else do you think they are going to do anyway after you've sat there for 4 hours getting bored?

Apologies for the minor hijack, but is there and Ottawa rule equivalent for shoulders?

Came off earlier on diesel spill (i think). Some comparable levels of swelling! Collarbone seems intact.

No shoulder rules, swelling is unusual. How's you range of movement? Injuries that are common are clavicle fracture, acj disruption, shoulder dislocation and humerus fracture.

Having lightly knocked my elbow on the worktop on Wednesday evening then waking up with a painfully swollen arm on Thursday, to now starting my 3rd night in Dundee Ninewells hospital hooked up to intravenous antibiotics, I'd be getting that looked at by a doctor.

That looks as if it needs a stabiliser

@TomB - range of movement without pain is minimal. A 'sling' type arm position or with hand fested on hip is least painful. Applying pressure doesnt make pain anyworse other than right at top of shoulderline. Its weird, wheels went out sideways from underneath on a corner ive taken 100 times before and landed on shoulder with quite a sizeable thump.

Typing all this with one hand and split between feeling like i should get checked out and feeling like the last thing any medical facilty needs is some tit like me rolling up after crashing my bike.

Apologies for crashing thread OP

Locomotive - no worries chief, crash away 😜. I smashed my shoulder up 10 years ago and never got it looked at. Suffered for years with frozen shoulder in the middle of the night. No bother now, think I wore all the broken bits away. Wouldn't recommend that as a therapeutic method though. Ankle has got steadily better throughout the day, so just letting it do what it needs to do.

I work in a&e, we’d be happy to meet both the ankle and shoulder in this thread and get them assessed. These are exactly what we are here for. However, if you have a walk in centre with X-ray they’ll equally get you sorted.

@locomotive
yours sounds very similar to mine after i landed on it at innerliethen just over 4 months ago although i managed to ride the rest of the day ok, had to abandon the golfie ride next day after 2 descents in a lot of pain then it got worse similar to what your saying for a couple of days then gradually eased up.
back on the bike after a week and that actually hurt less than working with it.
for the next 3 months certain movements would occasionally trigger a really sharp pain quite frequently which have now lessened to rarely(did actually happen today laying on the floor and stretching to reach something)

i do wonder if i should have gone and got it checked out.

edit: just seen your earlier post, i only had a small amount of swelling though.

Sadly, you are unlikely to be able to access this information. Confidentiality rules mean virtually no information is given out over the phone, and especially not to non-family. Thanks for making the effort to help.

Pragmatically, if this was a cardiac arrest, less than 10% survive to hospital discharge, and if there wasn't a shockable rhythm when the defibrillator arrived the chances are much poorer than that. However, early bystander cpr gives a much improved chance of a shockable rhythm than if no help was given, and I'd encourage anyone in a position to assist to help if they can.

Well done for trying, STM - hope you're doing OK. I'd echo that you are unlikely to find out the outcome unless it makes its way into the press.

Well done for helping.

Confidentiality is a concern for hospitals but whether someone has died or is alive is part of the public record. So in theory, the hospital could legally tell you if she had died, although I think you would struggle to find a member of staff who would divulge that. You could also theoretically check town hall records or the coroner's office, but I would imagine those records take weeks to be updated.

In reality I suspect you're best off asking people who might have known her.

How is your ankle theStabiliser?

I ended up getting x-rays, TomB was right. Ive a fractured clavicle and something torn with rotator cuff or ACJ, not quite sure which one they said was the key problem. But whichever it was my movememt in that shoulder is now very limited. Swelling mostly replaced with some well defined bruising.

No more riding for me for a while.

Even if ligaments you need to see a quack about that.

If it's any consolation I'm in a cast for 5 weeks for a broken thumb I was trying to convince myself was 'just a bit of a sprain'.

No Crimbo riding for me, either.
