We each make our own worlds

An inescapable aspect of life is loss. What is important is how we choose to deal with loss.

"The will to win is nothing without the will to prepare"

Credited to a few people but I like to think Juma Ikanga the Tanzanian Marathon runner said it. In my mind it means you can talk about how good you are and even kid yourself but on race day the winner will be the person who made sacrifices and worked hard out of the spotlight day in and day out.
Thats what it means to me anyway 🙂

Not really advice, but I love the implied guidance.

"And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music". Nietzsche.

Always listen out for the music...

In relation to bike/toy purchases
'it is better to seek forgiveness than ask permission'

And in more soppy moments of love and marriage
'not someone to spend the rest of your life with, but someone that you couldn't live without'

"Every night before you go to bed, ask yourself. I've just traded 24 hours of my life for what i just got. Am I happy with that trade? And if you can rest your head happy with what you got, you'll be very good at what you choose to do"

Quote from one of my daughter's basketball coaches.

Another Jenn quote
'You can try to do everything, please everyone, be all things to all people but given that most people don’t know what they want half the time anyway then what’s the point in spreading yourself thin? Focus on the small things, the things you do well; be the thing that makes you happy and leave your mind open to the possibilities that may be just beyond your reach'

Whether the glass is half empty or half full, there is still plenty of room for improvement

Nobody ever specifies what the glass if half-full of though. Polonium? GHB? Cat Sick? The Antidote? I'll decide whether I feel optimistic or pessimistic about half a glass full of this mystery substance once the results come back from the lab.

TANSTAAFL - Robert Heinlein, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.

For years I didn't realise it was an acronym.

Great concept when you see the word "free" in an advert.

There are many great ones but I think...

Anyone capable of getting themselves elected should on no account be allowed to do the job.

Douglas Adams, Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy

And as already put forward by timber

Better to ask forgiveness than permission

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than the ones you did. So throw off the bowliness. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
(I very nearly got myself into a mountain rescue situation by following that advice, but it generally holds true)

Did you just develop selective blindness when Manny explained it?

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning how to dance (or ride bikes) in the rain.

I like that 🙂

I really like this passage from WH Murray:

"Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favour all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.”

“Climb if you will, but remember that courage and strength are nought without prudence, and that a momentary negligence may destroy the happiness of a lifetime. Do nothing in haste; look well to each step; and from the beginning think what may be the end.”
? Edward Whymper, Scrambles Amongst the Alps

One of my favourite books and I'm waiting for someone to make a film of it. Maybe I should float the idea on Kickstarter.
