I bought this off ebay on a whim, had a few 12s but this sounds the nicest ( and its laminate) its an ibanez exotic wood. Sounds amazing plugged in too.

The wife says it looks like Dolly Partons guitar, and my mate and musical partner nearly gagged when he saw it.

It is very very very bright it has very yellow quilted maple all over it and has rainbow inlays, but it sounds great so that all there is to it.

What does the stw community think?

I'd like it if you took half the strings off

That really odd cutaway puts me off, but I like the wood and inlays.
I do like the sound of a 12-string, Steve Hackett being a particular favourite.

not as nice to look at as mine (IMO of course), but I bet it sounds sweet - and that's the most important thing

I haven't a clue; it's a Dean Sarasota. I'll go look it up

<edit> no, they're not Seymour Duncans. Dean "Zebra" pickups, apparently

Nah not uncomfortable at all, thinner than a dreadnought tbh neck is thin ( which suits my hobbit hands) and action is very low indeed with no buzz.

So all in i am chuffed, it was quite miraculous as the seller wrapped 1 bit of bubble wrap and some selotape on it and stuck it in the post....

Looks good. How do you know where you are on the neck without dots?

picking's more difficult, but strumming isn't. Says a drummer, what do I know, eh? 😉

Drummer? I'm surprised you can figure out how to use a computer to be honest 😛

I find picking easier more margin for error, ie the extra strings are skill compensators.

Bit like a specialized pitch......

@ _tom_ 😡

I'm a computer programmer with over 20 years experience. I'm a drummer with 30 years experience, and I can just about play guitar.

With the exception of Mr Grohl, how many guitarists can play drums? Properly?

12, that's one more than 11 so must be good.

Spray it matt black, it looks hideous. Or only play it in the dark.

I like the inlay. Nice.

If the naesayers think that twelve strings have a predictable sound then search out the music of James Blackshaw.

Mefty, I'd like hear/play that.

Not my cup of tea, but then I think flame top Les Paul's are too much, so what do I know 😉

If you like the sound, that's the important thing.

willej's one is way way nicer to look at!

Too busy looking. The extra strings and headstock are fine, i could live with the inlays, but 1990 phoned to ask for its quilting back.

Its not a tea cosy dammit its a hat knitted by my mum.

We bloody rent, it is an auto airfreshener, this coupled with the fact that i am 34 today and we are going to the local pizzahut to meet my parents on a friday night to celebrate ffs.... does dent my rock and roll credentials somewhat.....

I would not buy it from the look but I will still admire someone playing any 12 string or any guitar well.

Enjoy!

ok, but I warn you, they're not great...

Q how many guitarists does it take to change a lightbulb?
A none - they get their technician to do it

Q how does a guitarist change a lightbulb if his technician is otherwise engaged?
A he just holds it still while the world revolves around him

Drummer jokes:

Q what do you call someone who hangs out with musicians?
A A drummer

A bloke goes into a shop and says "I'd like to buy a guitar". Shop owner says "You're a drummer, aren't you?"
"Yes, how did you guess?"
"This is a chip shop"

My brother-in-law. He's a drummer but sings and plays rythmn with his excellent cover band.
