We lost a fashionista form the top draw today RIP Lee
It got me thinking:- How many people actually consider the fashion faux pas they make when the get on the bike every morning?
i've seen some sick colour combos in the name of cyclismo espcially where roadies are concerned:-
Expose your personal tastes for all to see or the fashion police will pay you a visit
Does it have to be cycling gear?
No if it gets on the bike anything goes - I've even spotted men wearing gold sparkling leggins on fixies in Shoreditch
thanks eth3er
I heard some 'fashionista' talking about him on the radio tonight, she basically claimed that he was a really special person because he popularised wearing jeans half way down your arse, like kids riding skateboards on the South Bank were doing.
Now I know that McQueen was a pretty cool guy and made some nice clothes, and that presumably because you refer to him as 'Lee' you knew him yourself (cos Paul Smith said that he was known by his first name to his friends), so I'm don't want to be offensive, but listening to this woman on PM tonight I did wonder what ****ing planet she was on, he was special because designed 'low rise' jeans? mental.
Google him Nick or ask your missus if you have one - he was a leader in his field - you obviously buy your jeans with your weekly shop
here we go..
Tea and biscuits anyone?
no doubt he was a creative genius, i'm sure he was a nice guy, and a shame he felt the need to kill himself. his mother died 10 days ago. shame, life kills us all
RIP McQueen indeed, he designed some pretty nice stuff.
However, most of the 'gash' road stuff is designed so its easily identified in the peloton-for better or worse. And lots of 'club' kit copies the design/colours of the pro stuff
you obviously buy your jeans with your weekly shop
so let me get this straight, because I think that some woman, who could only come up with the fact he designs jeans that sit half way around your cheeks as a reason he was special, is mental, you deduce that I don't know who he is or wouldn't go out and spend £150 on a pair of his jeans?
whatever
Nick, McQueen was more than jeans and you work in IT
nuff said
I'll freely admit I'm no fashionista, equally I do tend to buy my clothes from proper shops rather than the market. However, I'd be damned if I'd pay £150 for a pair of Steve McQueen's jeans!!!!
a leader in his field
a horrible little misogynist, peddling overpriced tat to gullible, insecure, self-obsessed women with more money than sense
his mother died 10 days ago
if we all killed ourselves because mummy died the human race would be exinct

you should see where I currently work, I know how much it cost the taxpayer every time I take a dump...
Switched over from the BBC as I couldn't stand the drivel being spoken about that guy, whom I've never heard of, let alone ever see anything he designed apart from the junk I've just seen on the clip. Couldn't help but think Bruno?
A legend in his own entourage maybe.
I really really don't understand the point of wearing certain clothes just because a group of people tell you to, only for them to change their minds every year and decide that all that stuff you bought last year now is hopelessly naff and will make you look like a fool if you ever wear it again (unless it's at least 10 years old, then you can class it as "retro").
And then falling for it again, year after year...
(cue cut and paste response replacing "clothes" with "bikes" and "wear" with "ride" - which I'd dispute as most people don't chuck out all their bikes every year and buy a new set)
I bought one of his ties the other day. Bloody hell, it was tight...
+1 eldridge
Nice to see a celabrity death get the treatment it deserves on STW 🙂
mental. Check!
if someone on here topped themselves due to grief, would we take the piss? just because he designed expensive tat for skinny bean flickers doesn't mean it's not a sad situation..... i'm not particularly sad about it but its hardly worthy of some of the venom here...
Sorry, you ether "get" fashion or you have a brain and like to think for yourself.
Shames his mum died, shame he couldn't deal with the grief. I'd never heard heard of him, anymore than he'd heard of me. Hey ho.
To be fair, the "visiting professor" of fashion (ahem) on Today this morning was struggling to make him sound important and kept falling back on the low-rise trouser and the extravagance of his productions as the things he'll be remembered for. Personally I've never heard of him and find "high fashion" to be an introverted, navel-gazing joke populated by self-obsessed pricks. But that's not to say it's not tragic. I always feel sad when I think of the terrible place suicides must have been in, especially during those last few minutes.
Jeez, some real nasty things getting said. Thing is, if it was in any way bike related this place would be demanding a national holiday for grieving about it.
Back to my original thread please - Bike fashion faux pas.
I was paying my personal respects to McQueen and did not or would not expect the average accountant / IT worker or old fart on here to understand the fashion industry and its creative leaders - now get back to your desks and count some beans

So why bother bringing it up on here?
Doesnt matter if he was rich and famous or poor and unknown like me or anyone else off here he still desrves respect,as do his family and freinds and even his partner if he has one.
One day it could be one of us reading the pathetic and sad venom that some have posted and then how would we or our families feel.
Is this about bike fashion faux pas or McQueen? I mean you seem to want to link them.
I'm still not sure why you felt it necessary to deride what I do for a living and why I might chose not to spend the money I earn on 'fashion' (you have absolutely no idea what I spend it on). Indeed I believe I did actually compliment the dead guy, it's the woman they got on to talk about him I was critising.
What do you do for a living?
the pathetic and sad venom
eldridge didn't like him and there's a joke about a tie, patheric and sad venom? Really?
Nick im in fashion darling its like me slagging Bill Gates or some such (looks for help on IT heroes)
WTF is this about>?
One of the nice things about cycling is that its kind of ANTI-fashion; People who cycle a lot use what works, what makes it more efficient, more convienient. Even if it looks a bit strange (or pervy!) to civilians.
No matter how much the clothes trade would like us to buy, for instance, low-rise 12" flares, it'll not catch on with many of us.
FFS Frogleek! Let's put the condescending coblers you're coming out with as part of the grieving process. Always very sad when someone kills themself, whether they are famous and talented or not. Not sure that being famous, or in the same trade as you makes their output beyond criticism, or anyone who criticises them and ignorant fool. I take it that you didn't actually know the guy?
I find it quite sad that a lot of you have to belittle others. McQueen was a fantastic designer (although i've never owned anything by him), however, wouldn't the world be a little poorer without those we don't quite understand bit who produce things to discuss or dislike.
I've said it before - I can't believe how many of you know the cost of everything and the value of nothing.
Why not just be think how sad it is for someone who feels that they are in a position where there's nothing left for them but to take their own life. It makes me so angry.
mcqueen clearly did'nt value the feelings of his family and friends
Sometimes when your so upset and depressed, your state of mind takes over what your freinds think and tell you, sadly he failed to conquer those thoughts, and will be a great loss to his freinds and family.
To me he was just another bloke, and it appears very talented, but now sadly dead.
Sorry, you ether "get" fashion or you have a brain and like to think for yourself.
Depends on your viewpoint as to whether you regard fashion as an art form but like it or not all of us are influenced by what appears on the catwalk. There is little doubt that McQueen made a huge impression and deserves at least some respect for his achievements.
mcqueen clearly did'nt value the feelings of his family and friends
FFS grow up and if you are going to spout amateur psychobabble you might want to do some research into the subject first. Did you think it sounded clever last time you heard it. ?...........and it's didn't BTW
but like it or not all of us are influenced by what appears on the catwalk
Bollocks
34 year olds, personal experience of someone's else suicide, seen the grief, guilt and anger it causes.
psychobabble yeah
Myself, I prefer fascism to fashion.
And I hate fascists.
I take it you look like this
yep
LOL
Ok - most of us then 😉
