I'm looking for my 17y kid. My head and wallet says Yaris or Jazz but my heart yells Mazda 2 Skyactive (2014 onwards) .

Is the 74bhp ok? Or the 89bhp much preferred? Any one recommend the diesel for its torquey character?

Any info very much appreciated.

Mazda diesel owner here

Avoid the diesel engine. Significant problems with the egr valves, DPF, vacuum pump, injector washers and general carbon build up in the intake manifold

Mrs IRC had a 2018 Mazda 2 petrol. Didn't like it.  Harsh ride.  Slow.    I would take a Yaris before a Mazda 2.

Get the 89BHP if you do go for a Mazda 2.

Check out insurance costs as well. They vary
A lot.
