time to replace our 15year old bed and mattress.
we want to go from a King to a Superking, room is plenty big enough, but we have access issues with awkward stairs and a 90degree bend. The old king size mattress got up there but needed to be persuaded.
So looking at options. I've read about zip and link, are these any good? I've read they can size up bigger than a normal Superking causing issues with bed frames, is this the case? Surely that's a bit of an oversight?
other option is one of these roll up memory foam jobbies, are they any good? We have a mid range ikea in the spare room, and whilst it is ok it's not great, my wife wants pocket sprung but I reckon it'll get wrecked if we have to fold it in half to get it up the stairs...
any words of wisdom?
I've been told John Ryan are worth looking at, or John lewis
Had a few roll up mattresses in the past, all have been no bigger than a king. Our current one is a memory foam jobbie and id never get another as it's just too hot.
pocket spring all the way imo. how tight are we talking of a turn?
they can take a bit of bending before any issues.
Ikea, best mattress ever had.
+1 JohnRyan by design.
Went from memory foam (healthbeds) to pocket sprung by JR (natural model)*.
No more overheating at night, maybe not as plush soft as previous memory foam mattress but my night posture* is better supported through the nights sleep.
At times I thought premier inn hotel beds were the least one should expect, but now I smugly know JR offering* is plusher and betterer hands down.
JR pricey but pound for pound better value than similar specced mattresses.
Our IKEA pocket sprung mattress came rolled up, we had the same staircase issues and it fitted without a problem.
Just bought an Emma mattress, which is memory foam top, a breathable layer then pocket springs. They have £100 off until the end of Easter currently - the offer code is on thier website.
We've just bought a Simba pocket sprung/memory foam hybrid mattress from John Lewis.
Comes vacuum packed rolled up - we have a spiral staircase.
I am happy sleeping on a washing line but wife who has neck and spine issues loves the new mattress.
Depends on your budget.
I would go for Vi-Spring; I have one and looking at getting another.
Given your constraints re stairs & bend I would talk with them or their retailers - John Lewis being one of them. They do zip & link; you can also configure so that each side of the mattress is dfferent level of firmness.
JL range is generally good quality.
Barker & Stonehouse and Furniture Village are worth checking out.
