Yes, dull I know.
I was just about to push the button on a Simba Hybrid mattress when I saw a Guardian article claiming that they have had loads of complaints about them, and that Simba are not honouring their guarantees.
Anyone got any recommendations (or warnings) for a pair of side-sleepers looking for a decent mattress? Max budget is around £900, but would prefer under £700.
Just bought a second Ergoflex, the first lasted well (6 years?) and is perfect for our knackered backs, hips and knees.
The new one is nicer than the old one, cooler and a little firmer.
Very supportive, great for sleeping on your side, even pressure on dodgy joints.
Also have a Dormeo Octaflex which I love but 'er indoors cannot get comfy on. Thinner and firmer, feels more like a trad sprung mattress.
The Ergoflex was cheaper, they always have a sale on.
I'd recommend either tbh, depending on what you prefer.
Should have said, Mrs QTip is against the idea of a pure memory foam mattress, so it's hybrid or spring only.
God, I'm even boring myself with this (and I like chatting about some pretty boring stuff).
Ikea memory foam at the caravan which is OK, and a very expensive Tempur at home due to me breaking my spine nearly 5 years ago - I struggle to sleep well on most mattresses - hotels fill me with dread these days.
Have a look at these, very pleased with ours and the wool duvet is awesome.

A friend of ours praised their Tempur, but Holy Jeebus they're expensive! I'm vegan, so not inclined to go with the wool room ones. However, many mattresses have some wool layers and I'm willing to put my principles to one side if there are no alternatives of equal/better comfort for similar price.
We have a few Otty mattresses we are pleased with
Tempur Cloud, I initially balked at the price, but a 2 year interest free credit softened that somewhat.
I have slept like a baby for nearly 8 years now! It is so good 😀
To my mind, this isn't something I'd want to buy blind. You spend fully a third of your life in bed.
The last time I bought a mattress I spent a couple of days going round the big retailers and lying on everything in the store to find something we both liked.
Qtip - if you are anywhere nr Aylesbury & want a king-size, Lucas Furniture are having a proper showroom moving sale & well worth a visit.
Just checked & their new showroom opens bank holiday, so it might just be the dregs left at their old place 😕
I see your point Cougar, but I'm not sure I'd really be able to tell much from lying on a bunch of mattresses for a few minutes. Our current mattress is perfectly comfortable for a 30 minute nap, but we wake every morning feeling like someone has come in and kicked the crap out of us! Also, don't particularly fancy the idea of rolling around on a bunch of potentially COVID-ridden display beds!
Isn't the John Ryan website the place to go for all your mattress related questions. Pretty sure it's been recommended on here before.
Simba are not honouring their guarantees.
TBH I had this with Tempur, and so believe none of them will actually stand by their guarantee because they word the guarantee to disqualify the reason these mattresses fail (they sink badly when you've use them for a while, but return to their original shape which is what the warranty covers). We just bought our last memory foam matress from Emma or Eve.. one of those mail order places that are a 1/4 of the cost of tempur. I wouldn't say they were as good as the tempur but c lose enough, especially for the price.
We went to the bed store, and tried all the matresses.. tempur was the best for us, and as they don't sell eve/emma/simba we just bought one and would have sent it back (to be binned apparently!) if we'd hated it
Isn't the stw answer IKEA Hovag?
We have a firm on our guest bed, easily as comfy as the posh one on our bed.
The local bed shop to us (Abingdon Beds) do a great mattress (I think it's called the Eton Ortho now) which I personally really like. It's sold as their own brand but is made by one of the large bed manufacturers. Over the years we have had a few from them (for the various different beds in the house). Pocket sprung, quite firm, long lasting, great value for money. Personally I love them. Just can't get on with the memory foam beds at all so never really look at them these days.
We’ve got an Emma. Perfectly comfy but is warm. On warm nights I don’t need a duvet at all. We mall see how it lasts but so far so good. Though if it were upto me I’d have a pocket sprung mattress from Hypnos. They’re the ones Premier Inns have and after many a night at a Premier Inn they’re well comfy. A bit pricey though.
Thanks for the input. I got sick of thinking about it and went back to plan A and ordered a Simba!

We read all the Which reviews and settled on a hovag (firm) for about 250 quid. Much more comfy than the John Lewis one we had. Proper bargain.
We've got a Hypnos mattress arriving tomorrow. Its the Premier Inn one which id cheaper than most of the Hypnos direct ones.
We tried a few makes in store pre lockdown but really couldn't get a feel with 5 mins in a shop.
We've both slept well in Premier Inns so seemed a safe bet. Time will tell!
And weve got a Hovag on the guest bed which is really good too 😁
I misread the title and now I'm very disappointed.
We’ve had 2 Top of the range Silent night pocket spring mattresses in the last 3 years and they’ve become deformed massively. One was replaced under warranty but we didn’t even try claiming in the second as they’re utter shite.
We read all the reviews we could and settled on an Eve. Which claimed it was the best they’ve tested ever at any price.

I had this issue with the Mrs but given they offer a 100 night trial period we thought “why not?
Had it a month now and it’s brilliant. Not particularly hot at night (and I get very hot), and has stayed in shape perfectly. Very impressive mattress and hell of a lot cheaper than Tempur.
What Cougar said
Never buy a mattress without trying it.
It's not all about cost I ended up at the bottom of our price range (£4-800) (for a single).
The difference in comfort from £400 one to the mid range one was negligible and the most expensive didn't suit me - instantly uncomfortable when I laid on it. Although on paper it seemed nicer.
