Money on whether he wears down Tindal or Babatunde first. I reckon he’s racist / slimy enough to get through the latters comedy persona pretty quickly.

If Jill tears him a new one, will they feed him the old one as part of a bushtucker trial?

To be fair though, the people who book the guests for the show have played an absolute blinder. All this free publicity and a guarantee that the voting lines will be inundated every day until he leaves. Car crash TV at it's finest.

Edit: today's Wordle is trolling him, surely 🤣

I’m not totally sure how the show works, but if the public vote could force him to eat Cock au Kangaroo every night and then evict him on the first vote, I’m good with that.

Nah keep the ****er in until at least the smoothie task!

He should be the subject of a rigorous public inquiry into his part in the mishandling of the pandemic not playing at being a celebrity. In particular the transfer of elderly hospital patients into care homes probably killed thousands of people unnecessarily. Not to mention that his constituents go unrepresented while he swans around lining his pockets.

It's part of the conflation of politics with audience participation light entertainment that's helped to land us with clowns like Johnson and propagated the rise of a generation of Conservative politicians who think the whole thing is some sort of game.

It's tempting to just sneer at him for being a prat, but there are much deeper issues here and a serious political system would see him removed from Parliament for misconduct.

In any other job, if you just disappeared for weeks when you felt like it, you'd get the sack. Constituents should have a right of recall in such circumstances.

There will be urgent constituency matters during this period involving housing, benefits and healthcare where normally you'd expect an MP to intervene on your behalf. Tosser.

The prime minister's official spokesman said he believes "MPs should be working hard for their constituents, whether that is in the House or in their constituency".

Boris is currently shilling for crypto, isn't he?

Which is objectively much worse than going on a two-week jolly to munch bollocks.

I think a lot of people are missing a key point here. For a guy who has slid up the Tory party's greasy pole to cabinet level, munching down a few kangaroo anuses au cockroach is pretty much just an amuse-bouche.

If I were Matt Hancock, I'd point out that many tory MPs have second jobs and other interests, including the former leader, and he's doing nothing out of the ordinary. At least he's doing it in the public eye and being up front about it, unlike his peers. I'm more amused than outraged TBH. Strictly next?

Well I see Kezia Dugdale has crawled out her hole to remind us of SLab's support for the Tories as long as it can be used to justify their own idiocy.

To be fair, the MPs staff field most of this, but I agree, he should not be away doing this unless Parliament is in recess.

I got the impression that Sunaks comments covered Boris's little jaunt as well.

As much as I despise Matt Hancock - this is a shitty thing to do.

It smacks of the me, me, me society. She's got a story out of it now instead of it being lost in all the other shite the enquiry would throw up. And she's got the money from Matt from writing his book.

And if it was that important for her to share the info - why not publish it before the book was out? Oh yeah, because Matt's payment needed to clear the bank.

Can't see people rushing to her door with private information after this.

I do find it amusing the complaining about it being cherrypicking of quotes (which it definitely will be) when the only reason it is available is because he wanted to get out his book to present him in the best possible light.
Its definitely one of those can both sides lose scenarios.

Yeah, if the book was meant to be 'warts and all' then all this stuff would have been included, not just the bits where he saved the world.

A Health Secretary during a lockdown handing a loaded gun to a fervent anti-lockdown campaigner renowned for stitching up her sources, and partnered to the leader of a rival political party...if you needed any more evidence of his lack of judgement...

The next book to be ghost written: Sir Alex Fergerson - the Glory Years, ghost written by Kevin Keegan and Rafa Benitez

Looks like the NDA she signed is clearly not worth the paper it’s written on

I’m still gobsmacked that even someone as dim as Matt Hancock would hand someone as dodgy as her a whole truckload of ammunition to use against him. Especially as it was for a self-serving vanity project that has probably been read by about 3 people

Did we see Jackie Smith tell Oakshott to shut up on one of the Beeb's Tory party rallies? Smith spoke for a nation, best thing she ever did. 🙂

I suspect we will find out in court! But I wonder if Hancock has the guts to try and how long that might take.  I'm sure the Tories will want to bury all this and move on as soon as possible, whilst I would prefer it to drag on for months. Although I do feel for the people directly hit by family deaths during the pandemic, each new bit of government 'banter' must be hard to read.

Such a loyal individual ...

"Extraordinarily, Oakeshott handed the entire archive of Hancock’s messages to the Daily Telegraph despite being paid a rumoured six-figure salary by Rupert Murdoch’s News UK to be a pundit on its struggling TalkTV channel.

Staff at the Sun and the Times have been left fuming that they are now trying to follow up a story given to a rival newspaper by one of their own employees – while TalkTV has missed out on a scoop that could have helped it in its ratings battle with GB News."

Obviously Hancock will have kept all his WhatsApp messages so he'll have the originals to show that they were edited by Oakeshott and the Telegraph as he claims. And of course all the unedited messages will have been passed on to the COVID inquiry at the start of the process...

Hancock is on damage control and everyone needs to be careful to not help him out. Whenever the conversation is about HOW the messages were released, it is not about WHAT the messages say. The real story here is the content, not the mechanism/morals/journalistic integrity/NDA/Trust.

TBF it looks like Oakeshott got a couple of zingers in on an otherwise unsuccessful Times Radio appearance:

[Oakeshott] then accused Newman of being “unprofessional”, and in turn asked her how much she was paid by Times Radio.

“I haven’t hit the headlines. You’ve hit the headlines, Isabel,” Newman said. “Well, maybe if you broke some stories you would,” Oakeshott replied.

To call Cathy Newman unprofessional whilst not answering valid questions about her motivations showed an astonishing lack of awareness and enormous sense of entitlement. Every interview with Oakeshott reveals more about her and none of it pleasant

I had never heard of her until yesterday when I tried listening to this podcast. I managed about 15 minutes.

That interview was utterly toe curling - those weird threats "oh I could tell you all sorts of stuff, but I won't, unless I have to".

Something it reveals though is just what a mess of a man Hancock must be - what sort of person lets someone like that anyone near them. Just how startlingly, deeply, thoroughly naive would you have to be. "I will **** you over" runs though every sentence she says like a piece of Blackpool rock.

Thats a man who in this day and age can get a job in government because the the role of government has been so debased that people with any sense or talent wouldn't waste their time on working in it. There wasn't anyone better suited for the job than that useless gullible shambles in front of him in the queue.

It goes without saying that if you get any insider info on any recent tory government, it's going to come from someone absolutely without ethics and morality, because nobody else can get close and if by some miracle they did, they wouldn't last 5 minutes. And the tories themselves are generally cunning and self-serving enough to detect anyone that might have a gram of honesty and therefore avoid letting them hear anything incriminating.

Oakeshott is terrible but the things she's leaking are worth having leaked. It's very obvious why some people want her integrity to be the story though.

On the other hand, I’m not seeing anything from these revelations that is even slightly surprising to me. The bloke was under a vast amount of pressure, facing a situation unique in modern times & is a minister in a party ideologically averse to doing what needed to be done. I’m not surprised that his private communications look pretty bad.
I’m also not really seeing what the anti-lockdown brigade are interpreting as a smoking gun.

Depends on if it has already been handed over to the inquiry.
Plus remember we are only getting to see what the anti-lockdown telegraph wants us to see and I suspect they are a tad disappointed by it since there isnt anything really stunning here.
If it was being leaked for ethical reasons then it would have been to several papers.

I don't think anyone is suggesting they were leaked for ethical reasons (and I don't think that ethical leak would have to be multiple newspapers simultaneously). But it doesn't matter.
