Ok, so the AD year numbering system is just a human construct.

So, it might not be 2018 in a few hours time.

Let's say for the sake of argument, that we're actually gonna be two thirds of the way through seven instead.

If that's true, when on the AD year numbering system is 7?
What's the calculation to work this problem out?

Did the 7 numbering system start at the same time as the AD construct?

Well it's not really a human construct, is it? It was based on a few centuries' worth of astronomical and tidal observations with the intent of anchoring the reckoning of time to something less fluid than the Olympiad, the emperor, or indiction.

Yes, an estimate of when Christ was born was used as that anchor, but it was in fact only one. There is also the 'Anno mundi'. Try that one on for size!

For this problem, before I realised I was posing a much bigger philosophical question, I was taking 0 AD as the starting point for 7

if we're 2/3rds of the way through 7. We're at star date 4.6666667.

Or the 1st week in July 1842

2018 = 7.666666666666666
then 263.217 = 1
then 1842.521 = 7

How random. Anyway, if you mean we’re currently at 7 2/3rds and you want to know what year would be at precisely 7... answer is approximately halfway through 1842.

Count each 3rd as 1:

7x3+2 = 23

Current year (2018) / 23 = 83.739...etc

Every 3rd is worth 83.739. There are 21 3rds in 7. So answer is

21 x 83.739 = 1842.5

why?

I reached this thread thinking "how difficult could the problem be".

Now I need more beer.

Prrrrretty sure that humans are the only species that cares about the date. My dog didn't have a clue when I asked.

There's at least two religions that have a completely different calender. It's 1400 something for Muslims and 5700 something for Jews

I think if this was a question in an exam I would call over the invigilator to point out there is missing information.

Before you get the calc out, remember there is no year 0 AD as our calendar was calculated using the roman numbering system and that there is a 4 year error as the Augustus name change had been missed. Not to forget the 11 days of 1752 or the odd 30th Feb in some places.
