Anyone? Any idea how the game element of it is supposed to work? Anyone else feel its just a cynical rip off?

My son was obsessed with these + other cards when he was at primary school. He is now 21, working and has obviously moved on to other obsessions (his girlfriends boobs + beer). All Match Attax cards have been nicely rotting away in some landfill site for several years.
