Your potato looks a little dry and not crispy enough, your beans aren’t hot enough which means the cheese hasn’t melted. Probably just nerves but I’m sure you can do better.

Should a signature dish not be unique to the chef, and not have the same 3 or 4 ingredients as every other Scottish chef?

I made this yesterday.. it's pretty damn good.

300g potato
300g onion
200g cheese
1 bell pepper
12 eggs

2tbs garlic powder
2tbs mixed herbs

1tsp chilli flakes

Cherry toms to garnish, but really add a nice tomato taste when you bite them.

I'm not exactly sure what I should call it...  I'm thinking 'turbo quiche', or 'filthy omelette'

Serves about 4 people, probably 6 people if they are on a diet. but 3 servings for me, realisticaly.

Bon appetite!

turbo

Two table spoons of garlic powder, and zero seasoning?

Did you miss the two tablespoons of mixed herbs?

or by seasoning do you mean 100g of salt and 100g of MSG? Maybe also 100g of pure sugar too, just for a laugh?

Depends on the post-truth deffinition of 'seasoning' I guess?  😉

Also there is no such thing as too much garlic unless we are talking about fist fulls of the stuff.

Argh I'd forgotten about that one.

Also Gregg normally says Tumor-ic instead of Turmeric which conjures up some pretty disgusting images.

I have issues with your chicken.... its not cooked. So I can't eat it but your avocado, black pudding and cranberry jus is however quite nice

On the pronunciation front, listen to Monica say 'bwutter' (that's the closest I could come to a spelling, but it's definitely not 'butter').

He was born and brought up in Paris, now works in London but has African heritage. A classically trained chef who can excite the judges with new flavours, a killer combination. I loved it last week when they challenged him on why on earth he was mixing banana and avocado in a guacamole. With a dead straight face he just said, I like banana and I like avocado.

Along with "smash it" why do some folk cooking maybe a bit fillet steak describe it as look at this bad boy as they baste it in butter and garlic like they were making a porn film describing the main actor

They looked absolutely awesome! I also reckon Phillipe will end up winning it because he'll do well at the pointy end when they shove them in high end kitchens in front of food critics etc. He looked cool as a cucumber while producing amazing food

But if you asked me who's food I'd fancy eating most, I think Ayesha from last night is the pick of the bunch so far

I quite enjoy it...

I feel bad for some of the contestants though, as it's not just about making a 5* dish, it's doing it in a tight set time frame aswell, as at home, or even as a chef in a posh eatery, if you stuff up a meringue or whatever, you can just make a new one and there's no problem...they can't do that in this.

I think they're all looking to prove that they are very very good chefs, which will hopefully boost their careers. Or just give them some sense of satisfaction

I think they’re all looking to prove that they are very very good chefs,

I think if they make it through the first round they are pretty top notch... I think it's the curve balls in meal spec and tight time constraints that are the killer, which isn't really representative, as the nerves must be through the roof, if you spoil one aspect of the dish you don't really get chance to re-do it unless it's something really quick and easy.

The dishes look good but also look very complicated. Well, to me anyway.

I should be the "taste" judge there LOL!

Phillipe just seems to breeze through whilst blowing the others out of the water.

Tom is a decent chef, but Phillipe matches him technically and has the benefit of knowing all sorts of exotic African ingredients and dishes.

Phillipe looks top drawer and has a winning way about himself.  Tom obviously has what it takes but wasn't quite on show this week.  He should hang in there: having watched this over the years, one consistent theme is the judges' preference for exotic flavours in the early rounds which one way or another - voting out the "challenging" or the hopefuls gradually migrating to the centre ground - ends up with more mainstream cooking prevailing.

These two are very good competent chefs. Difficult to choose.

Philippine only advantage is that he has sample taste from his tradition.

Tom has explored taste beyond his tradition.

Something like that ...

Looking at the ingredients and the preparation I find a lot of them are influenced by non-Western food.

I don't like "fusion" food and prefer to stick to pure traditional food cooked well.

Also, there other two female chefs, one Caribbean food specialist and the other one today, are also very good.

Are they all aiming to become a Michelin star chef?

They’re cooking at extremely high level so pushing to those standards to win makes sense.

There is a previous runner up does a food truck up this way. It’s incredible use of flavours and ingredients for sometimes what is a simple dish.
