Don’t get why they're still angry, didn’t they get what they wanted?

From what I can gather after a brief listen it comes over like a youtube comments stream in real life, where conspiracy, an emerging (and highly suspect) ‘culture/class-war’ combined with snake-oil and pseudo-science is the order of the day.

Is this the kind of ‘anarchy’ that the memers/youtube/social-media outrage-baiters/influencers wanted?

Maybe they have run out of stuff to be ignorant/ill informed about? Once climate change 'restrictions' get going they will have loads to protest about and can claim none of that is necessary either.

Maybe they just couldn't get a refund on the tickets and had paid for the banners to be printed already.
Bloody idiots as afaik lockdown is over, unless now it is the tyranny of other people wearing masks because they actually want to

Ever seen Trafalgar Square on an average summer weekend? I wonder how "massive" these protest would be if them somewhere that wasn't just busy anyway. I attended a religious protest the other day, well I walked down the street whilst some bloke shouted "look busy Jesus is coming" or words to that effect.

Save a few people some time watching it I managed about 3 minutes:

Someone shouting "freedom, freedom, freedom", Katie Hopkins, Piers, some trump flags, a woman shouting "the banks are lending you your money and charging you interest for it", a bloke telling us that the square mile is a conspiracy that's been going on since before William the Conqueror and that mainstream media is going to do time in a concrete cell with a concrete bed unless they come clean.

They just want to be “heard and understood”. Just don’t ask them any questions about what they are saying… that’s not what they mean.

I think decades of ‘austerity’, tabloids*, boredom, entitlement etc.

*And now youtube/social media to up the fever. Disinformation is an especially easy business nowadays.

Hatie Plopkins et al know a good grift when they see it.

The whole anti-lockdown thing now ‘lockdown’ is over reminds me of those especially committed Brexit sorts who got their exit, but won’t be happy until they see the EU itself destroyed, and every last ‘foreigner’ gone from these shores.

There's also a massive pro-lockdown protest happening right now too, but all involved have decided to stay in.

They just want to be “heard and understood”.

And at the same time claiming theyre being oppressed and arent allowed to speak their minds.
What is funny is the vids on free press and how they cannot speak. While showing the vid on the internet 😆 😆 😆

Yes apart from the livestream on YouTube and the big rally they are being allowed to carry out in the centre of the capitol they've been totally censored.

Your idea of freedom may be medical passports, jabs, a 2 tier society and coercion.
Fortunately a lot of others don't consider this to be freedom.

Ignore them. **** them.

If they want to impose restrictions on themselves then let them.

Looking at the personnel at these events it would be great if there was an international travel ban for the unvaccinated. Imagine how nice a Spanish resort could be without "oi-oi" nobheads, their fag-toting, muffin top sporting spouses and their feral offspring.

Your idea of freedom

It’s all a balance.

The freedom to race cars on residential streets at 100 mph whenever the whim takes you. The freedom to not have a car arriving by surprise in your living room while you watch F1 on TV.

The freedom to smoke whatever you want wherever you want. The freedom to work in a smoke free environment if you have respiratory conditions.

The freedom to carry a firearm. The freedom to have a night out with your mates with minimal chance of getting caught in crossfire at a shooting incident.

was in the area today and walked past it on way to Charing Cross with my 10 year old daughter, lots of utter bellends, crowd seemed to be about 70% female and several groups of them on the fringes of the protest were hurling abuse at passersby wearing masks for being “sheep c*nts”, one with a megaphone was even chanting it at a petrified elderly couple - I asked a group of Police nearby whether they deemed that acceptable but they just shrugged their shoulders. Hopefully the next variant just kills morons like these

These people just don't know who to aim their actual anger at, or what they are annoyed with.

It just manifests as a Farage type elite anti-experts faux-freedom tirade.

Really they should just spend their efforts on removing the Tories.

That would probably on balance deliver a better country for them.

I do wonder where these people go when there are proper civil liberty issues.

The “vaccine passport” stuff may well turn them against the Tories. It may be a seen as necessary public health move by some advising the government, but I also think it will be detrimental to convincing people who have so far been at all sceptical of the measures needed during the pandemic to support any new measures needed (including vaccinating the young). It could also be the red line that turns many away from Johnson’s take on Conservatism, and back into the arms of the total fruitcakes and grifters he’s worked so hard to usurp on his rise to the top.

Slightly related - but there's a book out next month arguing that Tory support is set implode. Whatever form that takes.

I will dig out the details.

It's been interesting as I work a few hundred meters from a massive supermarket so tend to get lunch there every day rather than be organised.

Monday I'd say 60% of the public were wearing masks, and hardly any staff were. By Friday I think I saw 2 members of the public not wearing them and about 50/50 on the staff. Which is kinda understandable, they're fine for half an hour, horrible if you have to do a shift in them.

And I don't think it's "pride" in being "selfish" either. I think that's a perception imposed by a middle class that's had over a year of WFH with only the weekly supermarket shop to worry about with their cute masks bought from Etsy. The people not wearing masks seem to be the types who've probably had to work though lockdown wearing them. And TBH having done a few weeks working on a site where they were mandatory at all times, despite the fact that after 10minutes they were just a soaking wet bit of tissue giving you scabby skin as it rubbed off. I really don't blame them for taking them off.

Generally quite impressed by how many people continue to wear masks around here. The real odd ones are the oldies, I saw quite a few maskless in M&S before the 19th, obviously given up early. Given they're the most likely to die, did find it a bit odd - but maybe they think they're now immune.

Did you read what was written

Yes, you were suggesting that it is people who have been wearing masks to work all through the pandemic that are desperate to risk infecting people in shops. And that it is the middle classes who are creating the idea that to not wear masks in shops was “selfish”… and that they had no idea because they had been working from home. What about doctors? Do they think mask wearing in shops is still required while cases are high? That to not do so is selfish? Are many of them middle class? Have they been working in masks through the pandemic?

Who on this thread is the Dr?

But seeing as you mentioned it.....

The aforementioned horrible job in Liverpool was for the NHS. Mask wearing amongst clinical staff in their break rooms was a lot lower than the general public in the supermarket.

Which is a bad thing.

But does neetly illustrate my point that the group's of people who've been wearing masks 8-12 hours a day for the last year are also the ones that seem keenest to not wear them.

I've just spent a week with an Covid denier. He has been to some anti lockdown protests in London (from Edinburgh) and his wife was at them last week. I've worked with him for years and he has always been fine, I never knew he was bat shit crazy.

The vaccine isn't a vaccine, he can't tell us what it is, but he can tell us what it isn't. Apparently we're living in a fascist state as well.

I managed to tolerate his anti Vax chat but he came out with the road tax crap over breakfast one day which pushed me over the edge.

I guy I ride with is a GP. His daughter got married the other week and he was so proud of how little Covid precautions there were at the wedding.

Also, my next door neighbour works at the local hospital as a registrar and they've been partying all through the last 18 months like nothing was happening endless dinner parties all through lock down.

All down to the individual, the GP's son (who I also ride with) works in the Neurology dept and would have a hissy fit if 7 people turned up for a 6 person ride during lockdown, refused to go anywhere near the group till someone else left!

Oh and while away on Freedom Day I noticed probably a 70:30 split of masks to no masks and by the end of the week it was probably 30:70 masks to no masks. That was in the Premier Inn the attached Brewers Fayre and whatever shops I popped into.

Ordinarily no. But in Brexit Britain you may well be able start a 'movement' or religion - wave a plastic Union Jack and you may even get elected to parliament.

Almost everyone round here still wearing masks in shops etc.

The sad thing for me about these protests is that there are nuggets of truth in amongst the bs, we should be concerned about this government using covid to curtail civil liberties etc, and they are cynical and incompetent, but the protestors have then tied it in to all this other nonsense. The comments on that live stream are full of utterly deluded gibberish.

It makes it very easy for the government and vested interests to tar everyone who raises a legitimate concern with the same brush.

Gaslighting is a very effective strategy if you have a large number of stooges.

I think it’s rather lazy & somewhat trite to casually label these protestors as solely RW. Let’s not forget Piers Corbin is also a rather rabid anti-vacation/anti-lockdown proponent. Conspiracy theories aren’t solely the province of the right. Idiocy has no political allegiance or boundaries.

Idiocy has no political allegiance or boundaries.

It is the indulgence of idiocy and the entitlement of idiots 'to be heard' that I can't get my head around.

In local cricket circles there was this old boy. He was a massive help at his club and he used to umpire youth cricket all over the county. He was a lovely old bloke. And thick as pig shit. He was known universally as 'Gold Top' (extra thick on top) - by his peers, by the kids, everyone. I don't think he ever twigged it. He was entirely happy just being an anonymous bloke getting on with doing stuff he could. He realised his own limitations and existed within them.

Nowadays every chump with an attitude thinks that their point of view is equal to that of scientists or even just those of us who can read a menu without moving our lips.

Perhaps, but the ‘enemy’ they have (overwhelmingly) identified (as far as there is one to unite them) is, broadly, an ‘Elite Leftist/Communist Globalist cabal

The common issues and enemies:

COVID-19? - Evil Chi-com globalist communist plot/scam/plan
Climate Change? - Left wing depopulation plot/evil globalist socialist plan
BLM - Marxist plot
Cancel culture? left/far-left
Vaccine? - Elite lefty Mainstream Media communist plot, Johnson’s Govt here are identified as ‘too far left’ left to be Conservatives and are regularly referred to as Communists, or even tools of ‘corporate communism’
Trans issues - Evil lefty anti-conservative tradition agenda
LGBT in general - same
George Soros - the big daddy baddy - puppetmaster of all the Left
Social distancing/lockdowns - Communists again. Want to take your freedumbs away to usher in Marxism/Communism
The Great Reset/WEF - Left/liberal globalist elite superbaddies
The Middle Class - Left/champagne ‘socialists’
The BBC - Marxist globalist far-left white-hating
Food supply - Corporate communism
Universities/Colleges - Marxists/brainwashers
Bill Gates - Evil leftist
MSM - liberal-left/Leftist/Marxist propaganda

Etc

If I missed out the lizards then you can guarantee that the lizards are still puppetmasters of The Left.

It’s pretty much all the ‘evil left’, I’m afraid. At least AFAICS, that is the most commonly-claimed link between all of the above so-called ‘enemies’ of these activists.

Yes. Because portraying it as the evil left absolves them from all responsibilities to others.

Which means it is a magnet for selfish thick bellends.

mask wearing sill close on 100% here. Was in a tourist area today. all businesses had big signs saying - this is Scotland wear a mask you numpties" ( I paraphrase a bit)

We had a gathering of 40+ people outdoors - socially distanced, no sharing, No hugging . Basic covid precations are still there for the sensible majority

Nope. When I disagree with someone on a matter where their opinion is valid and based on a well-constructed argument, I may still disagree, but I won't belittle them.

However, when they are ranting cretins then I will extend them all due courtesy. I.e. 'none'.
