although i have had the first game for a while on my 360,i only played a bit of it,then just ignored it.
my friend has all 3 on his ps3 and he raves about them.
just bought the trilogy for my ps3 (on special offer atm) and have to say how mistaken i was about them (just playing the first atm). bloody brilliant or what aren't they. (am currently looking for a reconnaissance team on virmire). you definitely feel like you are in a great sci fi show.

my character is tanya shepard (who don't take no bs from any fool/firm but fair i'm playing her as).
I might restart it some time, I got pretty bored of it after about 2 missions but it should be my sort of thing
It is the greatest game series of if time if you ask me. The key is to spent time with your crewmates to get to know them. The character development is fantastic and will effect what happens later in the game, the options you have (and don't have), and the plot in the next ones.
Don't forget you can romance some characters (well, one per game), with interesting results.
Lots of people decide to either do for the renegade conversation options, or the paragon ones to develop your Shepard's character.
