Do you iron your gi?

I've got 4 in the pile and I'm thinking "What is the ****ing point?"

What weight? Lightweight one I used to use for karate, yes.

The heavy ones I use for aikido, no. They dry crease free.

Reason? Respect for my dojo, my art, my sensei and myself.

Ours are all quite heavy. The warm up we do involves loads of situps and leg raises, so they are creased and filthy after about 30 seconds.

Yep, ours do the same. You still need to turn out the best you can. Do they look creased when you take rei at the start of the class? If not, then all good.

They look ok. Better than everyone else actually as most of them are scruffy school kids.

I do a warm up before Rei as I'm old and stiff.

What is the ****ing point?

Of wearing a uniform?

Good question... Why not turn up in normal clothes??

I've ironed them now.

I hate ironing, but they look better pressed.

Isn't ironing your gi the same kind of idea as "wax on, wax off"?

You won't understand the reason why you need to do it until the day you need to use it.

Nobody has been pulled for a creased gi at our place, but if you enter the room without bowing after a trip to the loo, or wander about during Kumite be prepared to do press ups. Lots of them.

If you can iron your Gi then they're just pyjamas and you need to quit poncing about and do some proper fighting.

Back in the day I knew cetain 'olympic level' Judoka that even starched their ghi as it was more difficult to grip and like a cheese grater on the fingers.....

Everyone starched their Judo Gi's back in the day, I certainly did. Drip dried the things too and certainly didnt use fabric conditioner either.
