Marrakech, having been there twice, is a complete shithole and I couldn’t recommend anywhere there. Also o/b through the airport is a nightmare. Otherwise enjoy!

Look at Riads rather than hotels.

We went about ten years ago, I kind of enjoyed it and would go back again knowing what to expect and with the right mind set. OH didn't enjoy it and would never go again. On the flip side we have friends who stayed in a modern hotel and hired a guide to tour the Medina (old town) and had a great time.

I wanted the full experience so we stayed in a Riad in the heart of the Medina. I guess Riads are all the same and ours had no glass in the room windows just a grill and shutters so you can hear everything that is going on and they can hear you. Ours seemed to have three or four mosques in close proximity and first nights sleep was woken from a deep sleep at fek knows what time by the call to prayer which shit me up a bit until I realised what was going on.

It is not a relaxing place, you need to keep your wits about you at all times and nearly everyone will try to rip you off.

That being said there are some genuinely interesting things to see and experience. Steer clear of the tanneries unless you have a strong stomach.

Oh, and OH got shit on by a stork while visiting the old palace. Those things carry a lot of shit! 🙂

Hotel Riu Tikida Palmeraie | Hotel Marrakech familiar todo incluido

We had our honeymoon here and loved it.
Plenty of guided trips available.
Friends recommended it to us after their holiday!

This was a few years ago (2014) so things may have changed....

Don't go in our summer. We went in January, hot in the day, duvet jacket at night,  stay in a riad in the old town.

Split the stay and find a riad up in the hills for some walking.
