Anyone here have experience in buying a frame from Marino?

Marino

I've saved a bit on money by not commuting to the office over the last 8 weeks. Well actually I've been commuting to my home office via 16 mile ride each morning on my of 26er inbred.

As I have a set of 27.5 wheels and other parts I thought I'd treat myself.

What are the pitfalls I need to beware off? Other than import duty.

Lots of owners on the Steel Is Real facebook page, all seem happy enough.

I'm pondering ordering a frame for my son.

I'm considering something like a soul but between sizes. I have shortish legs compared to my torso, a cross between medium & long would be perfect for me while allowing for a decent amount of drop on a dropper post

I have one, he provides great communication throughout the build process and you can have complete customisation for a very reasonable price. I think I paid between £450-500 all in.

It's not a light bike (but mine is very large so not surprising really given it's steel) and the finish isn't perfect (but still not bad) but it built up perfectly with no issues.

Overall I'd buy from him again, I have a bike with exactly the geometry I wanted for less than any off the shelf frames I was looking at.

I assume you can wash them less often.

There is a UK distributor for these now. He's not long set up so seems to communicate via Facebook -

Seems like the UK stock of frames are only in set sizes, my custom one has a 64° head angle and feels plenty slack enough so not sure how 62° must feel, they are also quite short reach.

So I bought one of the sick frames off of Marino when the whole fudge up happened (had originally order though sick but was able to get my money back as within the 6 months for PayPal if help out). Very happy with the communication between me and Marino (10 minutes to reply from the other side of the world at one point) though google translate was used so might have to keep emails as simple as you can to get what you want.

Frame hasn’t misses a beat and more than happy with how it rides. Did have a an issue with the chainstays clearance to the cranks but that is down to sic’ wanting to be able to run 3” tyres (have to run cranks with out boot covers). Clear coat lacquer has started to come off in one place so may get frame repainted at some point. Would say go for a simple paint job rather an anything fancy.

I would say if you can get a frame with the geometry and feature that you want from a bigger manufacturer then do so, but if you want a design that you can’t get from anyone else then go for it, when I bough mine there was no else making such a long slack low 29er.
