Is there an equivalent to OS in France?
Something that might show places of interest including battlefields from the World wars?
my great grandad was killed away from the front line as he and his mates were sat in a barn having a brew and a shell blew the place to bits..
sadly you dont need a map for sites from the great war, aside from the immaculately kept cemetries just riding around you keep coming across memorial stones, one i'll never forget said '' on this spot on the morning of XX 5500 Canadians fell''
sort of puts it into perspective
just google
How about this one? 2000 years of battles
Do a forum search because there was a thread a few weeks ago about someone wanting to trek around France (and Belgium, Holland etc?) in search of battlegrounds and memorials. Quite a few ideas were put forward.
When crossing the border with Belgium this link will become particularly useful: The Great War in Flanders Fields
This is the web application of the Aqua Terra Battle Map in Flanders
Also check Cycling in Remembrance of World War I, along canals, the river IJzer and a former railway track (Ypres, Diksmuide, Furnes, Nieuwpoort, ...)
Michelin maps have them on.
Fairly straightforward as most of the ww1 & 2 stuff in France is either the Somme, Normandy, or the Ardennes.
Don't forget Belgium & Ypres in particular as sites of significant WW1 battles.

That photo was taken at Thievpal war cemetery, IIRC one of the biggest on the western front.
