Went skiing last week and the plane was full of people coughing and sneezing . Low and behold 3 days later raging sore throat, then river of snot coming out of my nose .
This has now esclated to someone putting my head in a vice and doing it up . Kidneys are on fire , lower back pain pretty bad.
Still sneezing and unable to maintain a constant temperature. The real highlight was the last 24hrs, uncontrollable shaking like Shakin Stevens inside a tumble drier , sweats chills as well.
Got out of bed twice for wee but have eaten nothing and drunk very little over that time.
This screen is doin my eyes in so cant tpye anympre, gotsome Tramodaol, Diclofenac, Ibuprofn and Aspirin. Not going out , unsafe to drive and wobbly on my feet
Help!

Can't help with cures, but I had the same last week so you have my sympathy. Added complication was perforating an ear drum and getting an infection in the other. I still have quite badly impacted hearing and the perforated one hurt really badly. Don't blow your nose too hard!!

Lots of fluid and stop ibuprofen it's not good on an empty stomach and pretty shit if your fluid intake is crap. Aspirin on top of that is really asking for a stomach ulcer, hey why not chuck in some diclofenic just to make sure.

Paracetamol as per instructions on the box if you can take it, drink loads.

There is no magic cure.

Lemon, ginger and honey are antiseptic/anti inflammatory. Chicken soup make with proper chicken stock and lots of garlic is apparently antiviral. Avoid lempsips and drugs to bring your temperature down unless you are desperate. The fever is your bodies response to the virus it is making you the host an unpleasant place to stay so if you counteract that you may actually make your cold last longer. Your body needs you to rest so look after yourself eat well, drink plenty of hot drinks and try to sleep. Good luck 🤞

Turbo Snakebite & Black.

Special Brew & Stronbow Super with blackcurrant, taken as needed directly from the freezer.

Does nothing to shorten the duration but stops you remembering being ill, it will even stop memories of watching this morning or the Jeremy Kyle show.

Hottest curry you can stomach (immodium if necessary) and cider or beer!

If it is proper manflu the only sure cure would seem to be going down the pub and moaning to your mates.
At least judging by the number of people who do that I'm assuming it is the new NHS guidnce.

I've had it as well since last weekend. Had been taking cough mixture but have stopped that now. Also had a medical at work on Monday and they noted that my BP was raised! So need to get that checked again once the flu has cleared!!

Can't believe no one's suggested it but try echinacia. My wife told me about it a while ago and I thought it was herbal nonsense. But it actually works. Better to take it on the first signs of a cold but might help in your situation. They sell it on Amazon or Holland barrats and some Asda stores do them now

It's a virus and only your body's immune system can sort it... so remedies to ease the symptoms and plenty of vitamins and minerals to make sure your bodies immune system has all the fuel it needs to work at maximum effect. I take one a day effervescent vitamin C boosters when I feel like I'm coming down with a cold. Over the last five or so years of doing this it has never developed into fully fledged man-flu...placebo maybe, luck maybe. But I've just survived Christmas where everyone around me had severe man-flu...even the girls.

For plane journeys a work colleague of mine always used to use First Defence nasal spray. He read that the cold virus takes hold in the nasal passages, so when going on a plane where you're going to be breathing in other peoples germs he reckoned using First Defence pro-actively prevented the virus from taking hold in the first place. Again, maybe placebo or just luck but he swore by it.

Tramadol/diclofenac won't be much good for flu.

Paracetemol, and ibuprofen in between if needed. Don't go for the hard stuff with flu. Fluids as well.

Nasty is full on flu.

Bacon sandwich, nice cup of tea and the strongest opiate based painkillers you can get hold of. Nothing will cure it except rest.. may as well make yourself comfortable by not feeling the agony and pain of manflu.

Lots of tea and masturbation

Many, many patients in burns units around the country would disagree with this advice 🙁

Echinacea is a load of cobblers.

I agree with Drac - paracetamol and fluids and sensible food and wait until it improves, which it will do by the day. if you've been feeling crp for a few days and not really in the mood to eat then a multivitamin can't hurt if you have them in the house

update
Its not going well
Another bad night , bu at least the shivers have stopped.
Just got up for wee and make up some fluids, felt dizzy so sat on the side of the bath. Then managed to collpse off the bath onto the floor hitting my head on the towel rail on the way down. Its OK though , as 'its just a cold' apparently
Lay on my back with legs up for a while and did some deep breathing to try to pick uo my blood o2, usually have a BP of around 95 and lowish resting hr ( being a top athelete natch)
crawled to kitchen and made a cuppa and a bidon of hot ribena with a paracetomol and half of a high5 zero salt tab
Ate a toasted bagel now back in bed feeling rough as

Vitamin C doesn't prevent a viral infection; the myth has come about because while suffering a cold your ability to absorb vitamin C is reduced. There is some evidence that Zinc strengthens your immune system.

Paracetamol is your friend if you use it correctly, which is 1 gm every 5 hours so that you keep it topped up. Keep a note of timings so the level doesn't drop.

Antihistamine helps to dry watery eyes and runny, blocked nose.

Ibuprofen being an anti-inflammatory can help to alleviate bronchitis, which is inflammation of the airways. Otherwise rest, fluids and time. If you treat a viral infection you'll get rid of it in a week and if you do nothing it will last seven days.

Vitamin D over the winter seems to be being pushed by the pharmacist community as a immune system strenghtener. Logic seems to be that body only makes it when exposed to sunlight, so taking it over the dark months keeps you topped up.
I had lots of man flu last year so have given it a go since september...and from a very unscientific biased sample of 1 (me) I have't had anything bad and the rest of the office is on an 80% chance of at least one nasty lurgy each. Won't help in the short term (takes about a month to build up your levels if you are down) but worth a try (even if its the placebo effect - which is worth having!)

Ive been taking zinc for 5 months in the hope it will help my collar bone to mend and I feel better than ever and havent had any viruses. Mind you I've hardly been out socialising either so the chances of catching anything are slim.
