Hi
Off to Manchester tomorrow with my boys, 8 and 5, on the train so city centre pretty much, any recommendations?
Going to go to the science museum so with that, lunch etc it will take up most of the day but just wondered if anyone has any other thoughts.

Manchester museum at the uni (quick bus ride away) is better than you'd think - has mummies (of the Egyptian not yummy variety).
Old Trafford tour, it's only a short tram ride away.
Mosi down Deansgate
Free to get in and hope they have the retro gaming on again, best two hours ever
has mummies (of the Egyptian not yummy variety).
To be fair, it has both.
The football museum down by Victoria if they are into football.
Tram out to mediacity then imperial war museum also an option.
MOSI - defiinitely.
The building opposite the main one has lots of aircraft in it.
There's a really really old steam train you can ride on.
the Lego store in the Arndale centre
people saying MOSI- op did already say he's going to the science museum, which is MOSI... but to be honest, if your lads don't get bored too easily and you've never been there before, then MOSI can take up a full day and is well worth looking all round.
Jump on the tram to Bury, and spend the day at Arcade Club. Quite possibly the best way in the world EVER to spend a Saturday afternoon, for dad and kids. 😀
Binners has lost track of what day it is. Curse of the freelance. 🙂
😆
I'm easily befuddled. I now know what me and the kids are doing on Saturday afternoon though. Not been for a while. It swallows an entire day like you wouldn't believe. gaming nirvana 😀
Holycrap. arcadeclub looks awesomeballs.
As above:
Don't miss the aviation/transport building at MOSI, it is over the road from the entrance. Children (and Dad) love it.
My children also really like the Manchester Museum, it has a massive collection of stuffed animals and some dinosaur skeletons.
Imperial War Museum
-Man Utd at Old Trafford is also just up the road from there if you must.
MOSI is looking worryingly threadbare at the moment.
Half the good exhibits in the Air hall are gone, they can't afford the gas to get steam up in the power hall most days and the sewer bit has been closed for about 3 years. It's fading fast. Shame as I used to love the place.
The Natural History museum is very good. As is the War Museum. You can see who gets the funding.
The Transport museum just up the way from the city centre on Boyle St in Cheetham is surprisingly good if the kids like old buses and trams etc that they can clamber all over. Kids get in free and it's only £4 for an adult. My boy loved it!

Thanks All
Yep, sounding like MOSI will take most of our time, I'm actually a Manchester Uni graduate so agree that the museum at the uni is good, fancy a kebab from Abdul's for old times sake... Just never been since we had kids so wondered what was cool.
Done the Lego thing and Trafford Centre stuff before - the mahoosive kids play centre - play factore(?) looks cool but will leave that till we head over again in the car, will probably stick to the centre and just wander around. Is Aflecks Palace still there? Could take them for joss sticks and vintage denim....
Arcade club looks awesomz
