For a 40th. Characterful, nice place. Maybe above a good pub? Or similar. Must allow our Cider.

Also recommend a live (small folk band) who could perform there??

I've been told not to make a fuss. Like **** that'll happen.

Lloyds isn't that bad these days, it's kinda growing on me.
They do a fair bit of live music so should be able to hook you up with a band.

Mate had his 40th and the Carlton club in Whalley range, was good but the bar selection was terrible.

If you want a superb soul-jazz type band, contact Ed Hornby of this parish.

Seriously.
They're superb.

As for function rooms, you can hire out the upstairs of the Briton's Protection - we use it for the climbing club.
S'a bit of a dump, but nothing you couldn't fix with a few sheets & lights.

If you want somewhere nicer & bigger with DJ facilities, the Nag's Head is ok.

But if you want somewhere really, really decent, book upstairs at The Deansgate Tavern.
Nice venue, big balcony, DJ space.
It's the best by far.

the Kings arms http://www.kingsarmssalford.com/index.php?id=1 it says salford but it's right by the river near the city centre

the upstairs is bookable and the right size, they would probably be able to hook you up with a folk ish band

or you could have a proper party band 😉

[edit] Rusty, you're too kind - this link above isn't soul jazz it's good times Ska

Lloyds. Good point. I remember it from a previous doo.

The Castaways- like the mix/style as a fair few of the guests like Reggae/ska.

Although...anything like the 'man' in Zaire..

Agreed. Many great do's at the Deansgate. Good beer too.

Lovely place. Always quiet when we've been in (or quieter than you'd expect a good boozer to be)
