I need to park in Manchester for a week. Will need to get to the train station (have bike with me so distance not too much of a factor). I know about the airport, but are there any other options? Thanks in advance.

Park at one of the outlying stations and get a train in? There's a large car park here in Marple, or even residential streets not too far from the station. It's a 30 minute ride into town from here though

Presume you’ve trawled the parking aggregator sites (parkopedia, parklet, justpark) and found nothing. Otherwise check those.

EDIT will you be leaving it for the duration, or need somewhere that you can come and go?

have you tried the below.

like airbnb for car parking where people rent out their space. I used it when i needed to leave a car in liverpool for a week.

As per @nbt 's suggestion - not really sure of the areas north of Manchester but to the south Disley, Marple, New Mills, Didsbury etc all have parking at or near the stations.

Northern Rail are fine with bikes too, no booking required.

Manchester Velodrome is normally a decent bet for parking too, it's free although they might get a bit concerned if it's there for a week - that said there are plenty of Team GB cars that are left lying around the place for long periods of time.

Which direction are you coming from?

South

Easy option then - drive to Marple and directly across the road from the station car park is a gravel car park at the back of the Purple Pakora curry house.

Park in there, it's free and there are quite routinely cars left overnight there. I used to park there for the train into town - by the time I was parking there'd be no space left in the main car park - but I occasionally left my car there overnight with no problems.

Marple is then about 20 mins direct train to Manchester Piccadilly.

Nice option, but leaving it for a week I dont want to return to a clamped vehicle or worse still a vandalized or stolen one.

Not that there'd be much point booking as there's a very good chance your train won't exist.

If the car park doesn't appeal then there are residential streets a little further up the hill that may be better. Equally, there may be other options closer to the motorway if you're driving up the M6.

marple is not exactly a crime hotspot though

There are plenty of side streets in Didsbury where I wouldn't be concerned about leaving my car for a week

just to be clear, what car is a size question and not a car snob question 😀
