Anyone got any suggestions for a nice pong?

I usually wear this one, but in absence of any Christmas prezzies this year, I have to buy my own! However, it doesn't last very long either on my skin or clobber - any suggestions for a similar quality/type of whiff, that lasts slightly longer than a couple of hours?

I like Joop Wild, its a bit like 1 Million but a bit less sickly sweet smelling. I've only had compliments on it so it must be alright 🙂 Ted Baker M has similar compliments as well and is really cheap, but it doesn't last very long.

Vera Wang is my current favourite. Kinda sweet but not too sweet. Also has tobacco extract, this sounds Wierd but it works!

From the website: Vera Wang for men is a rich and warm masculine fragrance which combines the scents of green mandarin leaf, crisp yuzu zest, nutmeg, leather, anise, sandalwood and warm tobacco.

I get lots of comments about it.

Thanks both, do these last throughout the day? Going to go sniffing any suggestions tomorrow, but can't judge longevity!

guerlain vetiver, creed, tom ford or aqua de palma. all that stuff from boots/superdrug smells like a cross between a sweet shop and toilet duck.

Yes the Vera wang lasts a good long time. I also like the Chanel Sport stox mentions. It's more fresh and a daytime smell. Good in summer

I have to say both my Chanel's seem to last well and The wife agrees.

I'd defo recommend giving them a sniff test.

The only problem is that both of my aftershaves are Chanel so they are at the slightly more expensive end of the shop .... So I get the wife to buy them 🙂

Prada Luna Rossa, smells good and lasts.

The three I always use are:-

Vera Wang - lovely stuff, also not many people wear it.

Armani Code - I love this one

Channel Allure (normal not sport) - my fave of the three.

Fragrance is a very personal choice though, go to boots and try them all.

Chanel allure homme sport is great. However after a mate of mine gave me a small tester bottle, I got a bottle of Creed Green Irish Tweed, and it is awesome. Lasts all day and then some, and was Oliver Reed and Sean Connery's fragrance of choice, so its gotta be cool aint it 🙂

Cheers & agree, I'll be sampling suggestions - it's the STW insight into those with longevity of whiff that I'm looking for 😉

Although as Chanel is emerging as a trend, I better raid the change jar.

EDIT:

Creed Green Irish Tweed
£180 for 120ml??! Thanks, but I'll have to pass!

I usually have the following:

Eau Sauvage, Dior
Lime, basil and mandarin - Jo Malone
And then I tend to buy the odd thing at airports, currently Allure Homme Sport.

I use the Bodyshop 'sport' one which is nice, but the scent doesn't last too long.

[img] [/img]
For going out, Astor from Geo F Trumper.
[img] [/img]

but I've got a pile of samplers from Floris from my local shave shop that I need to try out

^^^

Good to see a bloke with taste.

I really like Astor by Geo F Trumper and it lasts for ages on my skin.

However, it should be noted that fragrances and longevity are quite a personal thing and what lasts for a long time on one person may not last for a long time on another.

No, no, this one has a hint of lemony freshness...

Lovely for you, but not that lovely for the person who spends time next to you on a train, in a lift and so on.

Passive smoking for ponces.

Speaking as a girl (ok woman I am old) I have a friend who wears vera wang - and it is lush

But as dez says men that wash are far preferable to those that just slap tons of smellies on.

Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille. Lasts all day on me. Absolutely love it, as do a good number of women who catch a whiff and had plenty of strangers ask what it is too. Not really one for wearing to work IMO, but makes you feel like $1m when you wear it.

You may wish to be sitting down when you "Add to Cart" though.

As an aftershave, something to stop your skin drying out and getting sore, the Burt's Bees Aftershave is very hard to beat.
And it smells exactly the same as all the other BB stuff, so you know what you're getting.

Apart from that I like the Paul Smith stuff in the striped bottle.
I have some Paul Smith in the clear bottle too - bit sweet, but not unpleasant.
The Vera Wang stuff is very popular - both sons in law asked for some for birthdays last year.

Generally use Cartier Pasha. Quite woody

Tempted to get some Diptyque L'ombre Dans L'eau as a brighter fresher alternative.

I like to cup my hands over my ass, let one go, place cupped hands over nose and then inhale deeply......it's a heady, intoxicating aroma of meat 'n veg. I haven't found anything similar to buy yet though.

I've got a bottle of Eau de Colon I can sell you Raggatip.

It's called Choux de Bruxelles Surprise, by Methane.
Very popular on Boxing day in our house.

Paul Smith, usually on offer. 1 Million. Both are reasonably light and last. I have dry skin. Other skins types will give different odours. And I only apply AFTER showering.

I've commissioned my own:
WOOD by DSquared2

Gets lots of attention from the women. I put this down to the smell rather than my smouldering good looks.

Well I tried a lot of the suggestions thank you; many of which I'd buy, but plumped for the first suggestion oddly, Bleurrgh De Chanel.

Bloody lovely and stands the endurance test. Bit steep for 100ml, but you get what you pay for I guess!

my usual smells are Hugo by Hugo Boss, L'Eau d'Issey by Issey Miyake, Boss in Motion by Hugo Boss, Le Male by Jean Paul Gaultier and Cool Water by Davidoff. i have tried many other but always seem to go back to those as my smell of choice.

So, here's a question that I hope STW can answer:

Why are pretty much all scents available branded by the large fashion houses? I mean, there are plenty of perfumiers (like Fragonard in France - actually, any of the Grasse lot), but we never see anything own label for sale.

My favourite. It really does elevate man to another state of scentliness.

Second fav is Creed Himalaya.

If anyone is serious about buying any Creed scents on the cheap then pls check you're receiving the genuine item as I'm sure all copies will be nowhere near as pokey.

The original Kenzo (bamboo/curved green bottle)
Light citrus with hints of melon - very subtle and certainly gets commented on in the right way 😉

As far as I'm aware perfumes will go off once you crack them open, so to speak. There is a guideline use by on the packaging somewhere and, although I'm not suggesting you bin it if it's out of date, just be aware that the smell can alter in an almost imperceptible manner due to the slow and subtle breakdown of the different molecules involved due to heat and light (store in a cool dark place, obviously). I'm sure Globalti can add to this or even dispel it as myth perpetuated by the perfumeries.

I'm not saying they all turn nasty, some may become more to your liking, others not so much...

What nobody seems to have said is that perfumes smell different on different people, so what smells good on you may smell like old drains on me, and vice versa.

Having said that, my current faves are Narciso Rodriguez and Zadig et Voltaire.

Based upon the suggestions in this thread I bought some Vera Wang on eBay and it was waiting for me when I got home. Different scents do indeed smell different on different people and I do like this one; reminds me of 'Obsession' but less cloying and heavy.

Thanks y'all.
