BANG!
Back's gone - drop to knees with a grimacing whimper.
Today's ride cancelled and it's bloody lovely out there.
Getting to a mate's later to watch Wales qualify for Euros (hopefully) extremely unlikely.
A good day turned to poo in an instant 😥
I feel your pain. Got a dodgy back myself but have found this exercise useful if it's muscle pain you have trouble with
Feel your pain. Happens at the most unexpected times as well. Never put my back out humphing furniture but have many times when pulling on socks or tying laces, even when sitting down!
Last big one was getting milk out the bottom of the fridge. Also sneezing...
See a physiological, find out what the underlying problem is, religiously follow their advice. Will be quicker, cheaper and more effective than getting advice off here!
Making the bed? Rookie error right there. Why take the risk?
Welcome to my world. Dodgy back since late March. Summer's been a write off, a grand total of 2 offroad rides totalling 30 miles! 🙁
Dammit mines gone properly today, putting child no 3 bike into the van. Been twingeing for a couple of days. Acupuncture tomorrow eve then chiropractor on Tuesday should sort it. I don't care what anyone says, I'll do anything to not feel like this
since late March.
Doesn't sound so bad.... mine's been bad since about 2002 🙁
Worst one was a yawn. Couldn't walk for a week.
Been having a routine osteopath session every couple of months for the last 2-3 years, only had one incident in that time, rather than two a year for the 5-6 years before that.
I treat it like an insurance - avoids the pain, the time off work, the time off the bike, and the aggro from an unsympathetic wife.
Due to go tomorrow, feels like I'm ready for it after 3 days riding at Kirroughtree and Glentrool.
Did my back in mid summer, 2 weeks before a walking and climbing holiday in the Dolomites, which was to be followed by a week riding in Dumfries and Galloway. Did it lifting a set of weight lifting weights for my son and it was the first time I've ever had a back problem (over 50). Could not walk, sit or stand for a few days after and was really fearing for the hols, but got myself off to physio and after a few sessions, the last of which had some horrendous manipulation that left me feeling worse than the injury, and lots of exercises, things picked up. Worst bit was Mrs M having to lift cases into taxi, on to check in at airport and at other end etc 😳 Holiday was great in the end, managed to do all I'd hoped and though still stiff from time to time, it's getting to the stage I've almost forgotten I'd injured it
Ditto on feeling the pain. We booked on to do the Epic Cymru last month. Picked up the last bag to go in the van and ....arggggh. Hit the deck. A swift stretching session ensued to see if it would stretch out but no hope. I have now started yoga.
I've been up since 0430 with my back in spasm, happens about once a year.
Hadn't thought of acupuncture. How well does it work?
I'm considering yoga, it seems to bring a whole bunch of benefits if you believe the chatter about it,
I had acupuncture when my back problems were caused by ITB tightness. Feels bizarre, not in the way you'd imagine, but really hits the tight spots. Was done by a very good physio who specialised in it, can give details if you are Nottingham way
I've had a bad back for about 25 years ; tried doing the Abi Carver 'Yoga for back pain in Bikers ' - you tube it . Haven't looked back since; even when I get twinges the routine fixes it .
I've found acupuncture to be really helpful in terms of pain relief and getting me moving again. I'm off out now for a session in 10 minutes so I'll report back. Been in spasm since Saturday, very painful at the moment
Much better this evening, still sore and tender but I feel looser and much more comfortable. Had a bit of a massage to look for the crunchy spots, needles in for half an hour, then a bit of a massage after, rested the rest of the day, then chiropractor on Wednesday aft. I've been told in the past what happens is there is an underlying problem, the muscles around over compensate until they give up, which causes the area to go into spasm, anyone who sufferes a bad back will know what I'm on about.
I've been slated on here in the past for using acupuncture, but I couldn't give a toss, it works for me. To be honest, I'd use anything that fixed it.
Shall report back on Wednesday
I instinctively agree with the yoga and strengthening exercise approach, but if the worst happens, I wholeheartely recommend malleting the muscle spasms with the best pain killers and anti inflammatories you can get your hands on. Then TAKE IT EASY, don't muck about trying to do stuff whilst pain is masked. I find that if you can on top of the pain and inflammation once, the spasms stop and you can carefully get your movement back.
Did eventually manage to hobble around later yesterday - at one point I was struggling to put a few steps together which wouldn't have helped.
Had 2 lots of Deep Heat rubbed in last night along with Ibuprofen.
Had first official sick day since started this job in Jan 2014 today.
Spent a lot of time flat on my back bored sh*tless today on STW far too often.
Slept, had a hot bath and rested as much as poss - when I have sat down it's not been very comfortable.
Weekend before last I did loads of lifting and relaying heavy slabs, digging, wheelbarrowing and emptied 2 bulk bags which meant I had really tight hamstrings most of last week - now I'm no Clouseau but I suspect the 2 are connected.
Now in bed with more pills and more Deep Heat debating whether I should go in tomorrow...I feel bad for taking time off but the thought of driving 26 miles each way and sat in an office chair not very comfortable for 7.5 hours isn't very appealing when my back could be recovering more.
