I'm trying to figure out how to animate an image. It's a row of people with their legs up, and I'd like to animate it so their legs move up and down. Given that, unlike this image, there's a 'background', will it work, or will I just end up with double the number of legs showing?
Using Photoshop, incidentally.

gifsicle --delay=10 --loop *.gif > anim.gif
Assuming they are in profile you'll have to copy the leg, then clone the area around the leg so it blends in with the background. Then move the leg to the mid point, save a version, then the bottom point, save a version and then just compile in the gif maker of your choice.
You might get away with two frames, but 3 is probably gonna look better.
Photoshop has a pretty good built-in animation editor, which had tweening (calculates in-between frames automatically based on movement, rotation etc). Basically you use a timeline and then each separate layer is a different frame. If you're not already pretty good with Photoshop though you're going to struggle. As suggested above, you'll need to create some new background under whatever you want to move, which is the tricky part.

Thanks for the tips. I'm happy with lassoing and whatnot, so as long as I can work out the background, it might be ok.

Have you got Flash too as part of the suite? It'd be pretty easy on that.
