Hello folks

Finally putting some finishing touches to the kitchen and I'd like to paint the side of a broom cupboard in the corner of the room with blackboard paint. I'll need a bit of MDF as to cover a gap (the unit will be housing the boiler), so I won't be painting directly on the side of the unit. Has anyone done similar? Do I need to prepare the wood first?

Any advice gratefully receive.

Thanks peoples!

Yip done that it works really well. I used plywood, but MDF probably a better surface. No need for any other treatment. Dont bother paying extra for magnetic blackboard paint as it's pants. I added a couple of magnetic strips to the board so we could stick a few things on.

You could try finding an old fridge, cutting the flat door front off and glueing it to the MDF, sanding it then painting with blackboard paint, then you could use chalk, fridge magnets, magnets to hold paper notices, all sorts of stuff.

We bought a blackboard from eBay and put it in the kitchen, no use to the thread, other than to say I can't believe how much use it gets from the whole family!
