I wish to add sign writing to my van, has anyone used magnetic signs?
There must be a max size where its easy to get them on and off? Has anyone got magnetic signs on vehicles?
I often visit our recycling centre and removing signs would be a benefit to drop garden waste etc off.
I do know grit can damage the paint work on the van panel if it not kept clean as well.
I would not drive at speed with them on!
The other alternative is proper signs and magnetic covers for the occasional visit re-cycling centre!
Can't give advise regards signs BUT, after jumping through some hoops, our council let me use my works van at the tip.
Maybe worth contacting them? This was Kirklees in West Yorkshire.
I had one made for the side of my camper when we did events and festivals. We once did an event and came out and drove back down the motorway forgetting the sign was still on the van - thinking it had come off on the drive home, was surprised to find it still there when we got back.
As above our LA will give you vouchers to use a commercial vehicle at the tip if it’s genuinely the only vehicle in your household. The fact that it’s signwritten or not (or the signwriting temporarily covered!) makes no difference.
Magnets are do-able but you’d want to keep them fairly small, max about 2’ -3’ long, otherwise they get quite difficult to handle/put on straight as the force is very strong! You also don’t want to go over any panels or ridges etc as water getting behind them will quickly ruin the van. You’re supposed to take them off regularly to clean them but of course most people don’t bother then wonder why they’ve become welded to the side 😂 Obviously any grit or even worse metal swarf stuck on the back is not good so you have to be careful about storing them when not in use.
I had not thought about storing.
Yes,sounds like a hassle to add to the issue.
I've used them on a rear door and the sides. No problems at motorway speeds, but they are small enough to fit within a panel indent, maybe 30"x15"
I was offered a heavier grade of mag sheet which worked well, basically a giant fridge magnet. The printing is on a self-adhesive sheet on top, so it's easily changed.
I store mine on top of the garage freezer beneath the bench.
Don't use separate letters Fawlty Towers stylee 😊
