You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hurray 😀 😀
I don't want one of their "new" posts with a 15% cut in the hourly rate of pay and a 20% cut in the hours paid per day.
I'll take the money and go, thank you very much. Not that statutory redundancy pay is going to last much more than a weekend!
I'm a contractor, happens annually for me, usually around budget approvals, they sack me and then within a couple of months hire me back. You get used to it and it can be a blessing in disguise!
Was looking at redundo this time last year. We were told on Christmas Eve what the decision was 🙄
I was told 2 years ago just before Christmas - they must love the potential pain! Worked out fine for me though.
It's happened to me twice now just before Christmas, once I got made redundant on the Friday and started a new job on the Sunday which meant we had a really good Christmas with the redundancy money.
The second time was two years ago and I still haven't got back in to full time work, had part time work on a zero hours contract which has dried up due to cuts, the future looks bleak for me at the moment.
they have t get the money done and budget sorted for the end of March so it is often the point when they know how screwed they are
Granted the timing is not great for most folk
I'll take the money and go, thank you very much
Count yourself lucky - my brother was made redundant a few years ago, just before Christmas and discovered the company was so far up shit creek that he and his colleagues had just worked the preceding month for free.
Happened to me three years ago - loved it! Best thing that’s happened to me. Looking back, I can hardly believe I put up with all the stupid boring rubbish that came along with working in big pharma. At least these days, most of my projects are not implementing various ways of avoiding tax…

Yeah, sometimes it's great... driving tractors, riding bikes. But looking for work is bloody awful. Feeling rather useless most of the time, even though I have money in the bank.
My wifes company is trying to avoid bankrupcy at the moment
shes been told that hopefully she'll get her december paycheck, but (statutory) redundancy could well be through the administrators and could take up to a year
merry xmas!
we knew it was coming for a while so have been saving and just moved and reduced our mortgage and other costs so hopefully we will ride it out for a while, but theres not much going on in her industry (oil n gas) at the moment
Merry Christmas Bob Crachett.
Sorry to hear that and good luck finding a new job.
It took me months to find a new job this year - I was told quite a few companies had recruitment on hold or on a go slow - and there seem to have been a lot of redundancies announced over the last few months so I suspect there's more of this on the way next year.
Fingers crossed for all of you in a bad place at the moment. I was without a contract or job until 17 December last year and I know that Christmas can seem especially bleak when money is a concern.
It's amazing how far you can stretch the statutory payment when you have to! I've not bought any clothes in 2015, though it is beginning to show... Just had my first pay since April though and it is a good feeling! Good luck and enjoy the time off
That's good news, Lady G, I think? So congratulations!
Yup, good news for me, thanks Esme 🙂
Must arrange a recumbent riding day soon!
Good for you. Stick it to them I say!
Similar position myself. Enjoy christmas, hit January with a bit of gusto, and make the most of the extra time you've got for now. I've got roughly 6 months worth of funds in the bank, so not bricking it (yet).
I was made redundant on hogmanay a few years back. Good settlement etc and a job I didn't like much so I was pretty happy, it's worked out pretty well overall. And hogmanay went with a bang
I was laid off, let go, made redundant call it what you want a week last Tuesday with a month to find a job when I finish on Jan 8th
Hard work and using contacts on LinkedIn and last night I signed a new contract to start my new job on Jan 11th last night.
Giving me 24 days on full pay before I start my new job 😀
So it's not all that bad, jobs are out there if you look
I should add I'm hoping that this is early retirement (checks t'other half isn't reading this!)
Good luck to you alll
Plenty of time to now go train spotting on blackpool south, and cycling, pity youve forgot another rail enthusiast.

No, not forgotten you, project! But you can keep your train spotting to yourself, trains are useful for getting me and my bike long distances, but that's all!
Oh, and Blackpool North is nearer, we live in the posh part 🙂
I am in the same position. Got offered a 'without prejudice settlement letter' last week to exit the Firm by Christmas Eve.
Responded with reasons such as 'finding a lawyer in this time unacceptable' and undue pressure to leave. Got stay of execution until 2nd week in Jan. Expect I will go due to pressure in the Firm - but not withour a fight and I will hit the market in full swing in Jan.
Either way - crappy to do that.
