what voodoo is needed to enable a shared folder on a macOS server (Sierra) to be searchable on a client Mac? Apparently it should be automatic if the share is AFP (which it is), but I'm obviously missing something...

I created a shared folder with a single file in it for test purposes. I've done the spotlight privacy trick (on the client & on the server) to encourage Spotlight to index it but that hasn't helped!
