Forgot my charger. On site for two days. 50% battery charge 🙁
Quick google, USB-C powered (not MagSafe) Macs seen to run off any 60W USB-C adapter as they do quite a lot of power regulation in the case.
I am not near any Apple Stores but I can get to CEX/local laptop repair place. Amazon seen to sell Anker and other makes I trust branded for this machine so I reckon it should be fine. But.... anyone know for sure before I create a small explosion of once expensive components?
I have a couple of older MacBooks which have run from an Anker charger. You (& your MB) should be fine,
Yes. Look for ones that do "PD" (power delivery) but any generic USB-C laptop charger of a suitable power will be fine.
Cex usually carry offical Apple ones if you'd rather have that.
If you used a lower wattage charger [with the correct V output] would it still work but charge at a slower rate?
Thanks all. I don't think my local CEX Here has one checking the site but I'll go see. According to something I read, you can run them on a 30W supply and they'll still charge. I also learned I need* a USB-C to Lightening special cable that'll change my 8 faster than USB2.
I shall go out at lunch and see what I can find.
* I don't really
I've even used a standard low power USB charger, it was a bit flaky when using the laptop but slowly charged it up overnight.
Two strikeouts in the first two shops, then a result in one of those phone repair places. It looks exactly like the official apple one, except for the apple logo! A deal was done for cash after we tested it in the shop and I'm over 50% power and rising steadily, without any obvious MacBook on fire incidents 🙂
Still a bit more cash than eBay but given that it was a sellers' market, I'm happy with that.
I do have one of those standard USB adaptors. I was wondering if it'd work but I was a bit worried about trying it. Good to know.
Thanks for your help.
