I'm planning to ditch my Optical drive, dump my HDD in there and then install an SSD into the old HDD bay.

Can someone recommend a good SSD which would work well with my mid 2010 13" MBP? I think I read somewhere that there is no point in getting SATA III since my mac won't support the extra speed?

Also, I was thinking of putting my OS, Parallels software and most regularly used applications on the SSD. Will I regret buying 128GB? My current HDD is only 250gb anyway, so it's not like I've got loads of applications.

Thanks!

Samsung 840 pro SSD. or non pro if you're feeling cheap.

I've that setup (well, 2011 MBP) with a 128 ssd + 1Tb hdd.

Had it for years, if I was buying now i'd go at least 250 on the SSD.

Yes, your mac won't do sata3 but faster drives will still be faster in some cases.

Bigger SSDs are faster than smaller ones (as they write/read more chips in paralell).

Installing the adapter for the 2nd hdd is a bit of a fiddle, but take your time and it's fine.

I just did a straight swap of my (failing) HDD for a Crucial SSD. 2009 MBP I think. Was not that much money but it seems fine. The whole computer is certainly a lot faster.

If you can get your Parallels VMs on SSD it'd be of real benefit, so might well be worth stretching the size a bit. Normally I wouldn't bother, once OS and common apps are on SSD you've cracked the worst of it.

My 2007 MacBook Pro is running a 512GB Enterprise class SSD, it's pretty quick!

Samsung 840 pro SSD

That was what my internet research had thrown up.

Thanks for the advice guys, might see if I can stretch to 256gb + an upgrade on the HDD too (since they are pretty cheap at the moment).
