Is there a difference between 8500 and 8500s?

Or has anyone got a source of 2x 4gb sticks of suitable ram?

I've always used Crucial –  https://uk.crucial.com/

Yeah they come up with 8500. But I can get 8gb of 8500s for half the price on eBay

Do a bit of research on it - I'm fixing my OH's 2009 core duo* (the white plastic one) and if you put 2 sticks of 2Gb in, it will only 'see' 3Gb for some reason.   Not sure if yours will be the same.

* New keyboard, battery, charger, SSD... cheaper to get a pretty decent, new (non-Apple) laptop

Go to Crucial and do their scan. They will tell you what you need. My late 2009 MacBook had two slots and you had to be spcifici about how you shared the memory between the two slots...you couldn't just stick it all in one slot and depending on how much memory you were putting in and what was there already there were different configurations. I just maxed out with new memory purchased from Crucial. it's cheap enough and you'll know you won't have any compatibility issues with whatever memory you've already got in there.

After doing a bit of research at the time I put two of these in my 2009 MBP. Cheap, easy and still working perfectly 3 years on. SSD is also well worth doing, if you haven't already.
