Still struggling with the macbook

I was out today and took some photos on my dslr

Not tried plugging it in to the macbook until now, but it recognised it straight away and let me copy the photos from the camera using the photos app

Now then, how do I get some of them transferred to my phone?

Phone is plugged in to macbook, but the photos are not in finder

Absolutely no idea how to get them on to my phone

Copy them up to the Apple cloud thing then down to the phone?
(I don't have Apple stuff)

There are many ways. Just a few off the top of my head:

Drag and drop in iTunes.

Or you can set up an album for all the photo's you want to share on your phone and set it up to sync with your phone wirelessly.

Or you can share the photo with your phone via your email address.

Or you can use air drop

Or you can use bluetooth.

Or you can drag the photos into photstream

And i'm sure there are many many more ways.

Does your phone appear as a drive? Just drag from Photos onto wherever you want on the phone (or File -> Export... if you want).

Yes as above - drop them into iPhoto and make and album with them in it. Then sync this onto your phone.

but the photos are not in finder

with iPhoto open pick up whatever photos you want and drag and drop them onto the desktop (or a folder or to any app you want use in the doc) and a copy will be made that you can then do what you want with (without interfering with ones in iPhoto)

The share button in iPhoto is for this purpose. If you're using iCloud then you can share directly from iPhoto using iCloud. If you're not using iCloud then there are many many other options to share. It really is that easy. Two clicks from iPhoto is all that is needed.
