Help!
I have a piece of software (VW DiscoverCare v 1.0.4) which doesn't seem to be able to connect to the internet. I don't know whether it's a port issue or what but VW support are as much use a chocolate teapot.
Running Mac OS X 15.1 with the firewall active but the app green listed. It recognises there's a map update available but as soon as it goes to download I get "An error occurred. Please check your network settings"
Anyone got any suggestions?
Buy a Windows machine. I have several and they just seem to work.
I'd say the problem is likely to be the software and not the Mac. What happens if you turn firewall off?
running Catalina 10.15.7 here. I've just tried updating my card and it seems to be downloading OK (I don't run the inbuilt firewall but just turned it on and the download is still continuing)
Uninstall Discovercare and reinstall? I updated my maps about a month ago and it was a real pain - took a few attempts (and the VW site seemed flaky/non functional for some of the time). VW updated the maps about a week after I did the card so your'e spurred me on to do it again.
@Painey doesn’t seem to make a difference.
@b33k34 That’s probably an option. Stupid question but is there any way to completely scrub all the related files before I try again?
@thols2 Believe it or not DiscoverCare is problematic on Windows too - ran it on my Dad’s W10 laptop over the summer and it got to 99% update then failed.
Mac app deletion is *usually* pretty clean just by deleting the app from Applications (and emptying bin)
Once you've deleted the app I'd check for any related folders in ~/Library/Application Support (that's within your home folder, not the HDD's Library folder).
