I think it is about time I try to smarten up my online security. I use MacBook and iPhone for personal use, Chrome on Windows for work. Work chrome is logged into my personal Google account to sync websites etc.

Currently I use a combination of Chrome, keychain and 'back of diary' password management.

Keychain seems slick but I want to be able to access everything / autofill passwords on Chrome on work computer.

Lastpass seems to tick all the boxes but I assume it isn't as slick on the iOS devices as keychain would be.

What is the best of both worlds?

One password is my preferred choice. It will work for Dropbox or iCloud synchronising or you can go mad and pay them a sub to manage the online stuff.

They do versions for Windows as well as the mac but you will need the ability to install such things on your work computer.

I've been using LastPass for 5+ years now, if you are entirely Apple then it might not do much more for you than KeyChain. I had to use Windows laptops for a while at work (long time Mac user) so the cross platform element was handy.

I haven't changed because LastPass does a very good job, in that it just works. I also recently got round to updating my passwords everywhere and had LastPass generate and store individual 16 character passwords made from random characters. Stuff I'd never be able to think up, let alone remember. It didn't take that long and I now feel like my online life is much more secure.

As long as nobody gets into LastPass of course! I now have just one very strong password to remember (master password for LastPass). I like to think that something like LastPass is more secure than KeyChain because it is less widely used, and focussed on just the one job.

We did lots of research at work and decided on LastPass a couple of years ago and we have just been awarded CyberEssentials so clearly they are happy with the security of it. I like how it also works with Face ID on my phone and I can also store secure notes that aren't directly password related (ie, NI number, online banking recovery passwords etc).

I use both Keychain and also LastPass. Originally I started using LastPass years ago, before Keychain was as polished as it is today.

The challenge with Keychain is that you can't use it on your work laptop if its Windows, say. Therefore, I use LastPass plugins in the browser for the eleventy billion logins I use at work.

I agree on the LastPass reocmmendations - I recently started using it for storing everything important. Vodafone have also decided to ok using it internally as well, which should validate it's capability and security.

The random generator for passwords in the browser is very useful - once you twig how it works.

The other nice thing with LastPass is the ability to share some stuff with other members of your family as well as the emergency access thing.  So some ordinary stuff like leccy and gas companies are in one folder shared with my wife, my daughter has shared some uni accounts that I need to top up from time to time.  Works well and worth paying for although the free version also rocks

We started using Lastpass at work a few years ago and as we're a small setup I setup my account for lastpass, found it really good, and ended up using the same account to hold my personal account logins too.

In case it's not obvious, I recommend not doing that! Keep work/personal account login data entirely separate.

Mac Keychain is good at autofilling but it's not very user friendly when you find you need to manually type in the password (Microsoft Teams doesn't work with it...)

Last Pass works well across Mac/Pc but use it less and less as Keychain has got better

I use KeePass as it's got clients for all platforms, the Database for it resides in a well known online cloud provider that has the ability again to be available across all platforms, with local caching. I then use a long password to login into KeePass, that only works with a keyfile that I manually share across my devices.
