Yep, on our first trip to the Stanes years back, with no accommodation booked, we struck it lucky and they let six of us kip in the family room. The rest of the hotel was booked out for a wedding do.

Certainly better than the tents we were expecting to stay in! Bike ride > shower > bar > restaurant > bar > sleep > breakfast > bike ride.

I've not stayed at the hotel but the riding around there is fantastic. Just sticking to the trailcentres you've got kirroughtree, drumlanrig (not a stane, better than most of them), Mabie and Dalbeattie.

Ae is well worth a visit too if you throw in some of its excellent offpiste and downhill trails but the red route is pretty poor imo. Not in the same league as the other local centres. It's a really nice forest though, especially down around the river, you'd not be that surprised to see elves.

Haven't been to Glentrool, apparently the blue route there's good though.

The hotel is mint. Lovely rooms and great food. Very bike friendly as well and staff are all spot on. They have pods as well with a shower and toilet pod thing which is set in the very large gardens. From hotel you are at the trail head of Mabie. 20 minutes to ae and Dalbeattie, 50 minutes ish to kirri, and maybe 35 minutes to drumlanrig. Trails are all worth doing and they all have little bits of non marked trail here and their which is also pretty good.

Mr Pea and I got married there this summer 🙂
The hotel was really friendly and the rooms were good. We rode at Mabie, Ae, and Kirroughtree while we were there, had a great time.

stayed in a camping pod there - eaten in the hotel. Very good, very friendly, good food and they have a proper parrot. Will happily stay there again.

Thanks for the replies folks, it sounds like it's just the job for a dirty weekend in Scotland.

On top of the above, the descent on the blue at Glentrool is worth the extra journey up from Kirroughtree. Longest descent of any of the Stanes routes iirc.

The slog up isn't great, I'll concede that.
