You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Good to see lots of good positive arguments on this thread. Definitely for Terry's view that you should have respect for those working on a contraflow, and stick to the limit.
Drove through the Carlisle works on Friday evening. Loads of people doing frankly silly speeds through them to save what only amounts to a minute or two added to their journey.
Generally find the A9 to be OK if you drive sensibly and try to avoid anyone who is driving a bit lairy. Not always possible though as mentioned above.
Oh dear, most of you really wouldn't like what I'm CAD modelling right now....
Is it a giant mug of tea? I like tea.
You mean that camera cost £350k to install and run?
A STW'er would borrow a mates trailer and along with a few friends errect each speed camera for the cost of a few pints and a laugh.
Highways Agency probably has specialist articulated lorries, specific trained employees, H&S advisor onsite, site manager, drawings, concrete mixer and delivery etc to set the foundations etc (if its freestanding)? Plus the maintanance, admin and support team to send out and administer calls etc from the oxygen thieves who cant match simple numbers...
In general, its not rocket science is it? Theres a series of big clear signs warning you along with text telling you. Yet some people are either blind or beleive in the internet myths that no one is ever caught.
...Plus the public liability insurance for each camera incase of a freak accident caused by said camera or camera post/housing?
All I can say is Motorbikes FTW. No front number plate, oh yes.

Ahhh the perenial STW speed camera thread....
In the blue corner; the 'you vile antisocial bastards, how could you go faster than n mph. All children will instantly die as a direct result of your actions'.
In the red corner; 'why am I being picked on by these mobile cash machines, I'm only trying to get to work and what's wrong with ignoring any limitation placed on me by society/rozzers/traffic laws?'
Let the (pointless) fight continue....
Boblo - you forgot "if you can't do the time don't do the crime". Or - "speed if you want to, don't bleat about it when you are caught"
indeed....
drove the a9 tonight - if you missed the 6 foot tall yellow 2 lanes into 1 sign - with a big 60 in a red circle above it - you deserve a speeding ticket .....
although since it was empty and no one was on it i drove with my foot to the floor (awaits abuse but i do drive a vehicle capible of no more than 75mph on a downhill ......)
the past few nights driving home ive kept at the speed limit. so that means going up to 70 in the duals after sticking to 60 in the 60`s.. and it seems to be pissing more folk off than if i drove about 75/85.driving through the roadworks over the past week just north of aviemore at 30-35 is seriously causing a lot of people behind me grief.then when i go up to 60mph they are miles behind and seriously pissed off. which means that approx a mile later they are now closing in on me and deciding to go right up behind me.
come the dual carriageway.. i nip up to 70 and it rages them as they are yet again, miles back because they have a shit slow vehicle and ive pissed them off by getting upto the speed limit.sometimes the ones that like to annoy will then sit behind you at 70mph thru the dual carriageway only to be right up yer tail come the 60mph again.
were they dropped at birth?
wtf can you do?
All I can say is Motorbikes FTW. No front number plate, oh yes.
Ah yes, the workers are probably repairing the road surface for you or removing the slice&dicers from the central reservation. **** em though, the need for speed rules all and not minor dickheads who cant get a better job than roadworks 😉
Martin - be considerate and let them past? Be safe and let them past - or push off into the distance. I will never ever let anyone tailgate me - I usually just slow down and let them past.
60 in dual carriageways no?
Nope - 70 in duals, 60 on singles
i had a classic last night chump in a 4x4 doing 60 - i accelerated to 72mph or there abouts coming onto the dualer - toook him an eternity to get up to speed to pass me - over took me then slowed down to 50 on the 60 ..... do some people just feel the need to be infront and go slow ?
so that makes letting tail gaters past a moot point although its easier too watch the ****ers out the windscreen (i have no rear windows)
people who pull out in front of you on a country road, when there's hardly any other traffic, but causing you to break, - and then they drive really really slowly! - WHY - if you're so impatient that you couldn't wait for me to drive past before pulling out, how can you afford the time to go 20mph below the speed limit???
(yeah.. soz, realise my post wasn't entirely relevant to the rest of the thread..)
miaowing cat - totally agree with you, proper boils my p!ss it does.
miaowing cat - That happens to me almost every day and never ceases to annoy me. One more reason to cycle to work.
Break? You must be very fragile....
I'm a delicate girl... whenever a mean motorist is inconsiderate towards me and my car I break down in tears 🙄
(seriously though, it's a proper learning curve when it comes to taking road 'incidents' as nothing personal)

Unfortunately, the level of antisocial, pig ignorance seen on the roads (and elsewhere) seems to have increased exponentially over the past few years. Not personal, just another symptom of the 'me me me' times we live in. 🙁
60 in dual carriageways no?
70 in a car, as per TJ.
I remain convinced that a significant proportion of drivers either don't know this, are unsure what a dual carriageway is, or are unsure what this sign means:

My wife had been driving for over 15 years when she informed me that a dual carriageway was "an A-road with two lanes" 😯
5611 caught on the M6. Thats this mornings figure 🙂
