Off to Bluestone on Friday and need somewhere to stop for lunch on the way.
The Ebbw Vale is about half way so is there anywhere good to stop for lunch? Will have the kids with us (1 1/2 and 4yo)..

Lunch in Ebbw Vale 😯

Why would you go that route anyway? The Heads of the Valley road is being rebuilt round Brynmawr currently so will be a slog getting to Ebbw Vale. Surely it would be easier to go either M4 or A40, both of which offer much better choices for food. Getting onto the A40 is just a matter of diverting onto it at ABergavenny, plus it's a pictresque road too. You then have options of a food stop in Brecon, Crickhowell, Abergavenny or even Llandovery further on.

Ah, thought it used to be a nice area?
A40 does seem a better option looking at it...

Guess best to just pick somewhere near Brecon then?

Heads of Valley road is hit and miss at the mo, some days you can sail through, others, you can be stuck for 30 mins or so. Agree with milky though, I would'nt be looking to EV for food, unless its a Macdonalds or KFC lunch.
The Bridgend pub in Brynmawr(100 yds of HOV road)is supposed to be nice now, no personal experience though, or if its a nice day take a picnic and get off HOV in Tredegar and head to Bryn Bach park, its a nice spot but I wouldnt use the cafe there again, hence the picnic.

If you're going to pick somewhere near Brecon, then I would strongly suggest Crickhowell. It is an absolutely stunning village, with the ruins of a small castle around which the kids could play for a while after lunch.

Crick looks a good option. Not been there since I was at school (they had a n Old Chapel near Llanbedr IIRC)

Another option would be Nant Gawr forestry commission family centre just north of Merthyr. Is just a couple of minutes off your route.

Saxon Rider - Crickhowell is a town, not a village (pop. 9000). I should know, my parent's house is below the black tree centre-left 😀

Plenty of food options in town now, everything from a chippie to poncy cafe. If the weather's good a few cakes from the bakery/takeaway sarnies from No.18 could be good to take to the castle park or sit down by the river. I think the Bridgend Inn does food too.
