Morning all.
Looking to get a handful of espresso cups printed as a gift for a mate.
Struggling to find anywhere that will do low qtys on quality thick wall* cups. Design is just wordage
-that is to say found a few doing low runs on thin wall cups.
Or big runs on good cups
Anyone had this done and could recommend somewhere ?
*Times are not so bad we must have our espresso out of thin cups
Not sure about printing - but d'Ancap do heavy espresso cups (mine comes in at 160g) - talk to Bella Barista?
You could also try thick shot glasses, I've got some from Espresso Warehouse in Glasgow printed with their logo, 200g.
Also recommend NotNeutral cups, the ones Rapha put their logo on and sold for 30 quid a pop. They're pretty and much cheaper without their logo lol
Otherwise, Etsy might turn something up, or look into low MOQ pad printing?
pebeo p150 marker and a steady hand? Or cut (or find someone to cut you) a template? Depends how fine you want the text to be, obviously will be simpler on a straight-walled cup than a curved one.
There are various ways of printing onto ceramics, but if you can’t find someone who already does what you want, you might find the setup/faff charge for such a one-off job somewhat unreasonable (unless you can find someone willing to do you a favour!)
Yeah you maybe right zilog but I figured if someone's going to do it on shit cups for a fair price then surely there's someone who offers it on good cups for a bit more.
After all the cost/value comes from the set up and print rather than the cost of the cup.
The pen idea isn't bad . Just concerned it would wash off quickly. Will look into it.

I'm this context I think purposefully shonky is a good thing 🙂 it represents the cause well
I believe with the P150s you can bake them to harden the paint against dishwashing, etcThe pen idea isn’t bad . Just concerned it would wash off quickly. Will look into it.
Will look into it.
Actually now you mention it.
Wifes best friend is an arty person(as in professional artist) who may know how to do this best......and the further thought occurs that a neighbour is a ceramic artist. ......
I dont mind paying for a quality item. I dont hate the recipient 🙂

most short-run mug printing will be dye-sublimation, they use specific mugs/cups with a polyester coating to accept the dye, I doubt you’d find a quality espresso cup with such a coating as there’s no market for it. So you’re looking at a completely different print process being required.Yeah you maybe right zilog but I figured if someone’s going to do it on shit cups for a fair price then surely there’s someone who offers it on good cups for a bit more.
I have a UV machine which can print directly onto ceramics but I don’t have a rotary attachment for it for doing cylindrical items. Even if I did, there would be an amount of faff printing a new item as I’d probably need to make a jig for it and spend time aligning it etc. But that’s probably your best bet for a very short run. Pad printing would work very well too, I don’t know much about it though except you’d need to get a steel plate engraved first so no doubt v expensive for only a few cups!
looks like they do screen prints, which is not something I know much about, £50 setup for plain black print, but can you find a cup you like in their range and if not, will they print on a cup you send to them?Try coffeecups.co.uk
Well as you can tell I know nothing when it comes to this.
Pen might be the best option.
I expect the recipient would prefer a quality cup over the perfect print 🙂
Have a look on Etsy? What about engraving, or if the cups were made buy a potter you could have the brand put on, although rehabs not the look you want.
Another option would be a vinyl stencil,Mathis can be done in many layers if you want colour. I guess spray paint and same kind of finishing spray would work.
Have you asked the places with cheap mugs if you can supply the mugs? Can’t be that hard as plenty of places print photos on mugs.

This was my thought process. Zilog has explained why this is wrong though 🙁
From our friendly neighbourhood potter, expect to pay around £25 a unit for bespoke espresso cups, plus more for a saucer!
Buy him the nice mugs and tell him what was going to be on it.
Hot espresso into a thick-walled cup = cold espresso*

It's the rules.
Jkomo. It's very close to being that and a Sharpie . I'm sure he would appreciate the cups and I'm sure he would get the idea 🙂
Ive had a custom mug and cuflinks of these guys before. Although they were modifications of existing designs so I don't know how custom they can do it. And I don't know if they make espresso cups.

Pebeo 150 currently drying out on my preferred cup and saucer.
Ready for the oven tomorrow night.
Fingers crossed. Quite happy with how they turned out.
Photos later after they have been gifted. He's known to appear on here from time to time
