At Ladybower, when I say low I mean lower than the tree tops skimming Ladybower at a v.low rev/speed.

Never seen the type before, looked French-made? Anyone else see it? Had a rear loadbay (open) similar to a chinook.

glad to see you've still not given up on the hallucinogenics of an evening

How can a helicopter look French? Was it sporting a beret worn at a rakish angle while fondling your wifes buttocks?

String of onions draped over the tail? Painted in black and white stripes? Made a "ahohehow" noise? Racist.

we get merlins on a daily basis which stuns me as i live near woburn and the nearest operational raf camp likely to use them must be at least 100k, they seem to use bletchley park as a way point

Helicopters re amazing things - they can land in all sorts of places you might not expect.

I saw a Merlin over my depot at around 1930-2000 tonight with its door half open was only 200 ft off the ground, it came from the north virtually following the A1 , possibly the same one?

10 mins later a Lancaster flew over really low heading north.

I've looked at a flying helicopter from above, that's pretty cool. There's also a zebra striped helicopter in the south west, probably based at Portland.

I doubt it's based at portland. they shut that before the last millenium was out. Yeovil would be the more likely candidate there.

big bloke,

same lancaster was over bletchley park 1855 hrs, heading due east toward bedford,

as for those helicopters, stunning things being able to fly more than 100k on a tank of fuel, maybe the apache's and chinooks that cross over have actually flown over from the Stan???, 😉

question remains, why bletchley and milton keynes???

the lanc is on flypast duty, all ww2 aircraft fly over bletchley park when crossing through north bucks.

Skiboy.....we get a fair few choppers over us as we are a ref point it seems , chinooks regularly do very low flypasts over my depot i'm talking just skimming over the site lights no more than say 10 metres or so, awesome when they fly past hugging the trees around us. The Merlins/Apaches etc are more than likely from Wattisham, possibly Benson or Odiham.

A few Merlins are sometimes over where i live also as there is a QinetiQ research place up at Thurleigh , i assume testing some sort of new MoD gear.

They must have been testing something as the door was down, the speed and no military markings

I should have shouted at them in German. They would have landed, all gotten out and changed uniforms.

Yeah, the zebra striped one is a Sea King 'Jungly' (what the Marines use as assault helicopters) based at Yeovilton. Probably the one thing I miss about living in Yeovil is having so much aircraft activity - Merlins, Lynxes and Apaches from Westlands and Lynx, Sea King and (used to be) Harriers from Yeovilton.

Dontthink hink it was a police chopper,MIT was all yellow as opposed to yellow and blue.

Cruzheckler, you probably did but mistook him for a glacier. They move at roughly the same pace.

Thanks for staying off my trails today as instructed 😛

No - but it does look like a contra-rotating death banana.

If we're getting pedantic it'll have been a RAF helicopter not an Army one
