just want to say, i love this place. it makes me happy mostly.
always something funny to read, a fantastic place to find stuff out, or how to fix and solve problems.
i used to read some stuff and get a bit angry at them, but over time you figure out things, and keep away from certain posts.

so good work to stw, the people who keep it working and the forumites who keep it interesting.

😀

But yeh what ton said.

Ton,you're right, there's no place like it.The forum seems to cover a broad range of subjects besides bikes & only a few forumites come across as irritating.
I even ended up with a bunch of you on a Scottish weekend last year..

I agree, it's very 'entertaining' at times, informative usually, hilarious, exasperating, & eye rollingly good. Sometimes I hate it but can' stay away for long.

If I didn't have this place to argue and wind people up on (and occasionally go out riding bikes with them), I'd no doubt either be behind bars, a chronic alcoholic, dead from being killed by some psycho in a pub brawl. Or maybe some combination of the above. 😀

Apparently there's a magazine too. Who knew?

I wouldn't be riding my Stanton if it wasn't for this place suggesting it 🙂
Although I now want a long travel 29er to 'compliment' it in my bike stable

I also wouldn't have procured some very nice prints from Binners (my sister loves that london skyline one you did for her mate)

EDIT: there's also some lovely people on here (and some bellends)

I think it was "bollocks" but yeah. (-:

there's no place like it.

I used to use a BBS called Mono back when the Internet was in black and white. The STW chat forum is exactly how Mono was in its heyday; we had the same mix of incredibly diverse knowledge ("is there anything Mono can't answer?" - sound familiar?), running gags, heated debates, flounces, meets, friendships, relationships, marriages. Amazingly it's actually still going, populated by a core group of die-hards.

For me, for all its flaws the STW chat forum is the only place on the web which has managed to come close to that level of community and knowledge. And bollocks.

I blame this place for my increasing misanthropy and levels of sarcasm, however the two threads that sum what this place is to me are Sudocrem Cat and Spongebob Squarepants both left me in tears for very different reasons

Jeez - mono.org, not heard of that in a long time.

Used to use mono to bypass access restrictions on a MUD... I wonder if my logins still work...?

This is a handy forum, use it and :ninja: Awooga forum mainly as a place to chew the fat.

The first two are still live, both associated with a Pipex email address.
shadows, last on 2011.
legion, last on 2009.

This place helped me out when my son was born and there were a lot of medical issues. I'll never forget the kindness and support shown by a group of people I've never actually met. I've also spent way too much money on bikes, learned some random crap and had a laugh over the last three years as a result of frequenting this place. It's the only forum I've actually been arsed to join.

It gets a bit tiresome sometimes when it just seems like it's constant politics and religion, but this place always seems to deliver, someone always seems to know the answer regardless how obscure the question is.

I was telling my wife the other week about people off here meeting up in Les Gets for a ride, I was actually in Samoens at the time but was only there for 4 days and was leaving the next day so couldn't really spare the time. She thought it was great that strangers were meeting up in a different country to go riding, and said if it happens again I should go, and she usually just pretends to be interested when I mention stuff off here!!

There was a Great Purge a few years back, it's entirely possible that yours were deleted and someone else recreated them. Wait - I can check creation dates. shadows - 1996, legion 97.

Mleh - does mono host MUDs anymore?

Yeah. Probably more like SUDs these days though. (-: I was a MUDder but never really played the Mono ones so don't know a lot about them.

Looking at the menu, there's Zebedee, Razor's Edge and NewDawn. Looks like the latter's down but the first two are running.

I was a GoFar reader, but have only ever had a STW login (well two if we think of the great hack).

When I discovered that riding bikes was no longer really something I can do, I completely stopped posting and reading either the bike or chat forums for 12 months. I recall finally coming back and making a single post, only for mcmoonter simply to say "he's back". I was extremely touched.

It remains my go to forum, more often for reading and using as a better alternative to Google. I've met various people off here (years ago TBH) and there are others I'd still like to meet.

I'll be 40 soon. Anazing to think this place and so many people have been constant companions for nearly half of that time!

And when i really needed it, dragged me out of a very very dark place.

It is quite good here isn't it?

On a recent get together a random phone from a friend led me to ask a bunch of STW riders about Capital Gains tax. Needless to say the team stepped up to the mark and my friend is smiling again.

I've had quite a few incidents like this- Cheers Folks, you are great.
