Just listened to the one with Miriam Margolyes, jaw dropping show. Really enjoyed it but shocked by parts, worth a listen.

I've kind of fallen out of love with Louie Theroux. I liked his early stuff because it seemed to offer a real insight into unusual groups or individuals. It always straddled the line between serious investigation and freakshow but I think it's stumbled over into the freakshow side of late.

Eh?

His most recent output over the past few years has been on far more serious topics than his earlier stuff

His early stuff was far more "freakshow" driven

His trailer for it on the BBC is just awful though, puts me off the whole concept.
"April 2020, and I was ready to produce another TV show. But with coronavirus, I decided to make a pod.... cast.... <etc>"

I'm thinking about the recently shown unusual pets one in contrast to say his visit to militia groups in the states.

Edit: actually, googling that the exotic pets one is from 2011 so maybe you're right.

I'm with boardinbob, his recent stuff is far more serious and there is less piss taking that goes over the heads of the interviewee.

OOh, a new one. Thanks for the heads-up, have listened to the Boy George & Jon Ronson ones, thoroughly enjoyed them.
Went on to listen to the Jon Ronson podcasts too via that intro, those are worth a listen imho.

edit, blimey, I've missed a few!

The KSI one made me a bit depressed - came across very vacuous as I guess was to be expected of an 'influencer'.

I’ve listened to a couple of his podcasts and been mostly underwhelmed. They’ve been interesting is, but imho he’s not a very good interviewer. Actually I’d say he is a poor interviewer. Adam Buxton for all his flaws is far better.

Have you listened to the ones where Adam Buxton interviews Theroux?

I think he, Buxton does a great job of disarming Louis. Not surprising as I believe they are friends from many moons ago.

Must listen to more Adam Buxton.

Love Adam Buxton (and Louis T) Buckles' podcasts seem a bit esoteric until you have listened to a few episodes, new listeners will be a bit 'WTF?' but they are essential listening for me.

He and Louis (and Joe Cornish) were old school pals.

half way through his new audiobook at the moment too. like a massive extended pod!!
