Lots of jets flying about the last 20 minutes or so, up here in North Northumberland.
More Russian Bears?
It's been very busy round Lossiemouth this last week, P8s, tankers, Typhoons (commented the other day they were flying pretty late).
Yeah that’s pretty normal.

The RAF were in the air after 1600? Must've been some kind of mistake
It makes me chuckle that training seems to occur 10.00 to 16.00 on weekdays only. If Putin decided to turn up of an evening or at a weekend, we're done for.
Some Typhoons out over the north sea plus there are a couple of Draken international L159's flying around off the east coast near Newcastle/Hartlepool plus a Dassault Falcon out near Middlesbrough. All very normal as Draken (formerly known as Cobham) are flying combat training agressor flights against the RAF and they're currently based out of Teeside airport.
Oh, and theres an RAF A330 tanker off the west coast of scotland too.
Plus an RAF Rivet Joint out over the North Sea...
Flightradar is very useful BTW
We've had F15s over Aviemore this week - and they've refuelling somewhere over the Great Glen. I've think I've also seen the two seater Typhoon this week.
It probably went down something like this (strong language warning):
The falcons are electronic warfare aircraft. The real fighters will be practicing against them. Pretty normal.

Trouble is though most people would moan if the RAF train in the evening whilst they are watching Coronation Street.
We kind of get notified when the RAF are doing night flying exercises near us, happens for a period of about 2 weeks every so often.
Wednesday afternoons are also off limits: it's games time*!
*this may not be entirely true, but flights I used to take from LCY-NCL would often be considerably shorter than scheduled on a Wednesday.

Sports afternoon. Rare but my favourite was a bit of Egyptian PT.
If you look at NOTAMS you can get a little more context around the activity.
Looks like the danger area off the west coast has been activated for Exercise Storm Warrior.

but not Friday afternoons. That’d just be silly

The only ones who moan up here are people new to the area, the rest barely notice them.
reading NOTAMS is like peering into the ancient world of ticker tape and telexes. It's a wonder there aren't more scary incidents. Does the one for Newcastle really say that local ATC is shut because the whole team is off sick today?
If Putin decided to turn up of an evening or at a weekend, we’re done for.
Up until recently the Swiss air force only operated during office hours not only for training but also responding to threats.
After a 2014 hijacking where a plane had to be escorted in by French and Italian fighters they decided they might need their own capability but it took until 2020 to get it 24/7.

There are more systems that are used for deconfliction, but they're not for the general public. Also military flight planning is incredibly robust with checks built into the process to mitigate against risks.
But yeah, some NOTAMS are dull, but so are civilians who land at closed fields despite no positive comms with ATC.
If Putin decided to turn up of an evening or at a weekend, we’re done for.
Yeah very true. It's not like we have human intelligence, signal intelligence, early warning radar, QRF aircraft and high readiness military assets to respond is it...

You know, there's a chance he was joking . . .
