Always a complete ballache when that happens. Cards cancelled of course.

Mine slipped out of my pocket when I parked a car in our off-site storage area. Somewhere among around 800 cars…

Found it fairly quickly, fortunately, when I recognised one car I’d parked.

Now as well as being on a lanyard, I’ve got a Chipolo tracker stashed in the back, it’s the size and thickness of two credit cards stuck together. I couldn’t deal with the stress all over again.

I left mine on a wall in Craigvinean forest, Dunkeld, and it was anonymously posted back to me in Brum so you never know!

That's great news! But if you cancelled your cards and gave him all the cash in your wallet did you get any benefit from its return? Did it have your driving licence or other stuff?

Only had my debit card plus gym, cycling cards. Used my credit card on my phone as a bridge. Only take out what I need, leave the rest at home.

What’s a wallet?

It’s a container for physical items that you carry with you, like, for example, a driver’s license. It can carry other, similar sized items that it may be necessary to carry, like an RFID security card, other form of ID, cash, you know, actual useful stuff for day to day living.

Does that help?

I don’t think I’ve ever taken my wallet cycling with me.

Why not? How do you carry the stuff I’ve itemised above? Have you never been asked for ID? Do you never carry the means for buying stuff, other than a few coins in a pocket? Or do you rely solely on having a phone with you. Then what happens if the phone dies or you lose that?

Honestly, I despair of some people who never seem to carry with them a few simple items that could save an enormous amount of pain and hassle in an emergency.

Do you EDC also ?

Cash - bit like having a 4 star fuel car that.

ID when was the last time you were asked for ID on a bike ride legitimately ?

Likewise I've never needed my RFID security tag on a bike ride

a wallet seems like an easy way to lose a lot of similarly sized superfluous junk on a bike ride and create alot of hassle for your self.

Hell I rarely carry mine day to day these days ....

Not all people are like you though, some of us have to carry our drivers license with us, a legal requirement for any truck/coach drivers just as one example.
No way i’d take it on a bike ride though.

It's about the only examplep( although is it not your CPC card and tach card rather than your licence that is the legal requirement)

Almost be like you would have some kind of wallet just for driving rather than an every day carry

and it's not relevant to carrying a wallet on a bike ride either.

At most I'll carry a debit card or an emergency £10 note, never my full wallet on the bike. Losing my other cards would be a proper ballache so they stay in the car.

Technically yes, you have 7 days to produce a driving license but your DCPC and tacho cards must be on you. But it's far easier and less hassle if you do get pulled by the DVSA to have them all on you. I carry mine in an old Chain Reaction neoprene phone pouch that was free with a magazine (back then phones were the size of a debit card!) that they live in, wallet stays at home as otherwise it's too easy to spend money on chocolate and crisps.

OP Nice happy ending 😃
There are still good people out there

I keep all cards and cash in my Filofax.
I love being able to write things down, make lists and generally look like I am an artist or author making notes for my next novel.
I also have lots of ODCs (Occasional Day Carries),none of these are weapons or ordered from ThrewDark.
Yes,you've guessed it, I have a backpack on every ride.
I am also very glad to not tell people what they should carry around.

I think the key takeaway is take only what you need and when wearing a new cycling jacket put it in a pocket where it won't jump out.

Some places i wouldn't leave anything valuable in the car just in case. But then I would generally have a zipped pocket or a pack for most rides that I've driven to.

I use a Velopac in a jersey pocket. Never lost it, has a slightly grippy surface helps I stay put, though I keep my wheels on tne ground.

Carries my phone, keys, an emergency tenner (cos card machines don't always work), a couple of 20p coins (some public toilets...), credit card and my driving license, so they can identify the body.

Bit behind in the UK of course but digital drivers licenses will be here in a few years (some countries & US states allow them already). Mad that we’re still relying on bits of paper/plastic in this day & age!

Don’t routinely carry a wallet these days, but have an AirTag in it. Not lost it out yet but saved me turning the house upside down a couple of times 😂 Such a cheap solution, why wouldn’t you? (Or tile, etc)

Lots of places won't take contactless mobile and/or cash or debit cards only.

Always have a twenty stashed between phone & case of course, plus on bike also for caffs etc which are cash only! If somewhere takes debit cards they’ll take the debit card on my phone/watch 😀 Plus can use phone to get cash out of NatWest/Tesco ATM in emergency (such as my local kebab which only takes cash but there’s a Tesco metro opposite 😂)

I don't think I've ever needed ID on a ride. Not that I've ever used it (on a ride) but I also stash a tenner between phone and case. Sounds like a good outcome there though Caher.

Really? Round here the local chippy is cash only, but that's the only place I ever use that doesn't take cards. I only need cash for that and the odd babysitter. Everything else on phone. Hardly ever carry a wallet these days.

I have been in 2 pubs in the last few months which didn't take cards and one (well wedding venue) which didn't take cash.

So need both. Usually just take my PAYG credit card but have an emergency £10 more in my toolkit.
