I feel a bit thick but my Sony tv did a software update and I no longer have ITV 1 and 2. I do have BBC1 and 2 and ITV1+1. I’ve tried reprogramming and it can’t find any channels which is a bit weird, it’s got Wi-Fi. Any suggestions?

That's a bit of luck, how'd you do that?

Is this a bad thing? They're the TV equivalent of Asda.

There is usually the option of a quick scan or a full scan, do the full scan for Freeview channels as it's more likely to restore the channels.

Take it you are getting the channels from the TVs inbuilt Freeview receiver and a aeriel?

I'm asking as losing a channel due to a firmware update is a little odd but not impossible.

You can factory reset the TV but that's a little extreme just to get channels back and it shouldn't really be necessary anyway.

We've got a Sony TV.

Can you tell us how to to achieve that on ours too ?

Do you mean the tuning?

My reply was generic to be honest my friend, every TV brand has it's own UI but the principles are the same. If you are using an aerial there is usually 2 options, one just looks for changes in channels and is faster but the other option is a "full scan" and will basically reload in all the channels it finds so is the better option for the op's problem.

My Phillips has decided to stop telling me what Ch 5 has on. Ch 5 plays fine but the listings are just blank. Weird.

So you clearly only ever shop at Waitrose and Fortnum & Mason, then? *rolls eyes*

Some very funny answers, and on reflection I don't watch ITV much so perhaps I should be grateful. Tried the full scan on both analogue and digital and the weird thing is that no channels are being found although I still have access to all the other channels. Think a factory reset might have to be done. Thanks for all the suggestions

We lost the online ITV channels when they "upgraded" the apps and they weren't backwards compatible with our TV software. (Still working "live" via aerial). For ITV catch-up we have to use a Firestick - the ITV app is still dreadful though.

Apparently round our way some channels went missing recently, turned out it was a know issue at the transmitter.

Looks like you can check here; https://www.bbc.co.uk/reception/check-for-transmitter-faults/#/undefined

Our TV lost Disney and ITV X when the apps were updated, but it's an early Smart TV. We access them now via a small media PC under the TV, but we hardly ever use ITV X !

Very odd. My only concern about a factory reset is that, if you are really unlucky, you might lose all your channels if a scan isn't finding any channels at the moment. It's unlikely but it is possible in theory.

i suspect that when it retuned, the strength/availability of the channels wasn't quite there

I'd take a look to see if you can either manually tune OR look at signal strengths and adjust your antenna accordingly

Fricken Sony TV's, you'd have thought a reputable brand would be problem free. Can I use the onboard 4onDemand app? Nope, becuase they want to tie you into some weird youview sony system, that'll apparently break other stuff. I have a limit number of channels and have lost BBC, I know I could search for it again, and use tool to sort the channel listing out ( https://github.com/PredatH0r/ChanSort), but I really can't be bothered as I don't watch much if any live terrestrial TV. TBH I'm at the point where I'm looking at external boxes, to deal with the smart stuff, as my partner hates the TV...

I've had weirdness with scanning, are scanning the right system (do you need to be doing satellite instead?), otherwise make sure your doing a "full" scan

They aren't the brand they used to be that's for sure. That said, their really, really top end TV's are extremely good if you have the dosh.

I can't fathom out why the ITV X app on both the TV and BT box will not allow me to watch any ITV channel live but I can do so from this laptop.  The whole app based TV viewing experience is not an advance IMO.  Or am I now officially part of the "older generation"?

Two things.

1) There's little point in scanning ATV signals, they no longer exist.

2) If scanning DTV is finding nothing, yet you're still receiving existing channels, are you certain that you're actually receiving terrestrial TV through a regular aerial?  What happens if you pull the RF cable out?

We have a Now TV stick for this reason. With progressive updates of the apps, our Sony TV fairly soon ran out of the computing power needed to run some, (and it never had access to all of them anyway, because Samsung had some some licencing agreements IIRC). We did have to replace the first Now TV stick as that went the same way, but that was a 30 quid remedy rather than a few hundred to replace the whole telly.

I did a factory reset of my lg tv and it recovered a pile of channels that had been lost and were unable to be recovered by a re tune.

This is why I pay for Sky. It pains me but the service you get, the interface, everything in one place, ease of use etc is second to none. Tried pretty much everything else as it used to pain me paying Sky but nothing else comes anywhere close to being as good.

Freeview is about as bad as it gets. Absolutely dreadful. Although its been some time since I tried to use it.
