My darling daughter has lost her frigging iphone (4)
This apparently happened at least 2 weeks ago. Hasn't been handed in at the bus depot.
My guess is that it'll now have a new SIM in it (hers was a monthly PAYG and has expired) or else will have a totally flat battery if it hasn't been found.
Is there anything worth trying? (I've called and texted it and no answer)
I have an IMEI number but google suggests they're easy to renumber - is that right ?
I'm guessing it didn't have find my iPhone installed?
Change passwords for all accounts inc things like twitter, Facebook, any websites and importantly App Store and iTunes.
Be worth reporting it as stolen and blocking the phone. I doubt that whoever has it will have done anything more than wipe it and use it as their own or they've taken it straight to the local 2nd hand phone shop and flogged it.
Thanks,I'm guessing it didn't have find my iPhone installed?
Don't think so, no - I have an android and couldn't find an app that would work on both. Did originally have something a bit like that on it but she removes stuff and buggers about with the settings all the time
Yeh, I guess I'll report as nicked and get the IMEI blocked for whatever that's worth
I've got a spare iPhone 4 in VGC which I keep meaning to put on Ebay if you're interested?
thanks footflaps, probably not though - it'll take her ages to save enough to pay for it (she's 14) and would probably want to wait longer for something posher now ( 🙄 )
(out of mild interest, though, how much did you have in mind ?)
Nokia 3210 and an Important Lesson About Life?

No idea. Whatever is the going rate plus [s]mates rates[/s] STW discount..
EDIT: Looking at Ebay they seem to go for £100ish, so say £75.
Now you know it's definitely gone, time to lock the handset. That gives the thief or finder a couple of weeks of use of the phone, which is now taken away from them.
Have you tried 'Find my iPhone' on iCloud.com?
Yep..find my iphone. Also a similar thing for all you android users is the Google device manager https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager
Thanks all
Footflaps; I'll pass thanks - she needs a spell without a phone, I think
How would I use "find my iphone" now, or are you guys recommending it as a solution in general terms, for use before a phone gets lost ?
Find my iPhone comes installed by default on most recent iPhones. If you go to the Find my iPhone website, you can enter your Apple ID and track the phone via GPS. This should work with a new SIM but not if the phone has been wiped.
You should (I think) be able to use "Find My iPhone" on https://www.icloud.com/ by getting her to sign in with her Apple ID.
It doesn't need anything installed on the phone as the tracking part is built-in - provided it is enabled in preferences on the phone
(IIRC the "Find My iPhone" app doesn't add any new tracking - it just lets you find devices in the same way the web interface does).
Of course there is a good chance that after 2 weeks either it is still lost and the battery is flat, or some scrote has it and has already done a Factory Reset. But you never know.
My fiancée lost her 4s (a few days after the phone was released :-/) find my phone only pinged it to the nearest mast unless that's changed. She lost it cycling with me and it's still up there somewhere in the valley. We rang it till it seemed like the battery died the next day then had it blocked.
Find my iphone uses the GPS signal to pin point it.
Yeah should pinpoint it to within a couple of metres, unless it is well inside a building (or you have GPS/Location Service turned off)
If nothing else this thread should remind other folk with iPhones to check that they have "Find My iPhone" turned on in the Privacy settings and do a check on the iCloud website that they can find it and send it a message.
GrahamS +1 you should also ensure it's set up so you can annoy your kids when they're using your ipad by locking the ipad and getting it to sound tones. Never fails to amuse me.
My missus uses it to track my ride home so she knows when to put my dinner out 😀
I'm glad mine doesn't do that. She'd see that I'd left my phone at the Red Lion!
