About a year ago I lost my bahco laplander folding saw

Bit gutted as it reminded me of loads of fun times camping, scouting and being outdoors a lot, especially as one of the people I spent time with has left the country and I don't see her anymore.

Kept meaning to get another one but as I had a cheap aldi one it was not a pressing purchase.

Wife's car going in for new tyres so I opened the false floor to get the locking nut and..there it was.

For something that cost around £20 it had still made me really happy to have it back!

What have you lost and found that meant more than the actual purchase price?

After a cycle along some local trail, my mate and I returned to my house where the bikes were hosed down and and mine put in the shed. Later in the shower I became aware of an emptiness on my ring finger, the wedding ring was gone. Well I'd had a puncture on the ride, gloves on and off, that must be where it is. Walk miles back to the spot, search, search, move every fallen leaf, nothing. Maybe when I was washing the bikes with the hose, cold water making fingers slippy and, we'll, cold, search all around wash down area, nothing.
Eventually admit to self it's gone and decide to replace it with a "cheapy" from Argos cause "it's bound to happen again".
Over a year later whilst tidying up the shed I picked up a dusty rag and shook it out only to hear a metallic tinkling as my original wedding ring landed on the ground, the feeling of happiness was quite overwhelming.
Sadly I have since then lost it again and no amount of rag shaking and walks with metal detectors have returned it to me. I still have the Argos one but do not enjoy wearing it the way I did enjoy wearing the original.

@mucker, did you contact a local metal detecting club to look for the ring mate,or hunt with one yourself?

Most clubs offer a free service to help find stuff like that as it's good PR.

My wife lost the diamond out of her engagement ring. It was the poshest thing I ever bought her. Still is in fact.
We thought she lost it gardening, but I couldn’t find it anywhere. Went out that night with a torch, found it in about five minutes, sparkling away in the grass. Pretty chuffed, it wasn’t worth much as it is tiny, but still.

@mucker that's one of the reasons why despite 20 years of happy married life, I have never owned a wedding ring - it wouldn't last from one anniversary to the next let alone 20.

Lost all sorts of things over the years, some forever, others were just mislaid, but there were a couple of things that I was really annoyed at losing; one was a shark tooth I’d mounted with thick silver wire which somehow came off the chain while I was out riding. Impossible to find, when the ride was miles long, taking in the Sustrans route out of Chippenham. Anyway, I thought I’d retrace part of it, on foot, just for the hell of it. Just the other side of the Millennium Bridge over the River Avon just outside of town I spotted it lying in the gravel in the centre of the path!
Second thing was a pair of sunglasses, Arnet Black Dogs, that I’d bought back in the 90’s, and were almost impossible to replace, especially as I’d had new lenses custom made for them. Went on a walk near Bristol, about six or seven miles, turned cloudy and I took them off. Got back to the car, and realised they were missing. 🙁
Went back a week later to retrace the route as much as I could remember, because the map wasn’t that clear, so I had had to backtrack a few times, once through a stile in a hedge and alongside a busy road for about a hundred metres or so.
I’d actually walked past the gap in the hedge before I’d remembered it, and went through and along the road. Nothing there. Got back to the gap in the hedge, and spotted something in the grass. My sunglasses! Then I remembered I’d taken them off and without thinking put them up on top of my hat, and when I went through the hedge, a branch had caught me in the face, must have knocked them off into the grass on the verge.
Again, what were the chances of finding them? God knows, but chuffed to bits I went back and looked.
Still wearing them, my favourite shades, and I’ve got lots!

Mega 2017 Sunday racing went to watch the main event and cheer on a friend. It was that windy that the race got moved from pic blanc down to just above the 2100m station. Anyway, cold and blowy I had my treasured Nicolai cuba cap on my bonce.  After the racing got underway, we had a wait for the winds to drop so the gondolas could run again. The sun came out and temperatures rose. I remember putting my hat down, and then nothing. Got home and realised I had left it at the 2100m station. Gutted.

Three months later I was sorting out my camera bag, and there was something bulky in an odd pocket. Found the hat in a stash pocket I'd forgotten about, it's a big sad how elated I was to see it again.  It's now only for winter months and not poncing around the alps in 🙂
