You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Thought I'd never say it 😔 Spent 3 weeks in Canada overdosed on hooch over there . Thought I'd give myself a rest from the stuff for a while . It's been a fortnight rode the Quantocks today , sun made an appearance mate fancied a pint so I thought why not . Pint of Doombar usually goes down a treat , after a few slurps I thought meh , soldiered on and finished it said to my mate I was going to offer it him but I thought I'd never live it down . I've got 4 boxes of Henry Weston Vintage Cider in the garage 🙄😔
Is this the end of civilization as I know it ? 🙄😔
Off on a riding trip to Norway in a week's time so with the price of beer over there should save me a small fortune 🤔
I think the problem here is you thought Doombar was a goods beer and now realised it’s crap.
Harsh Drac 😉
To your GP immediately. Its a sign something is very wrong with you. Possibly galloping dandruff or cat flu.
What beer were you drinking in Canada? If it's their 7% IPAs, everything else will taste like water...
Find a suitable alternative

Vlad how did you guess ? IPA all the way , I didn't think they were that strong? 🤔
I found Singletrack beer in Booths in Penrith earlier this week and can confirm it was nice.
Doctor doctor I’m tired of sex
Well that’s normal at your age. When did you realise this?
Twice last night and again this morning.
First thought was exactly what Drac said.
Maybe what's happened is you've found your taste for beer.
When they moved Doombar out of Cornwall it genuinely went to shit. Avoid.
I think the problem here is
you thoughtDoombar
Remember thinking it was ok years ago. Returned to the UK years later and had a pint. Wasn't what I remembered.
Same with Greene King IPA.

Oi, I told you that under patient confidentiality!

Can't stand Lager ! Far too gassy 🙄 Maybe stick with Henry's then Hobgoblin in the Winter.

Came to say Doombar is crap but @drac nails it in the second post.
Life is too short for crap mass-produced beer 🙂
Creme De Menthe. Oh dear 😯
I remember vomiting that stuff bitd. Green it is on the way in, and when it comes back out again.

In all seriousness; covid.

This could be part of it. I still like a British pint, but it’s definitely not as pleasurable as it was before I started drinking Aussie craft beer.
I don’t make any beers under 5% for myself and they’re often 7%. Rarely have more than a couple at a time, but it’s a nicer experience to drink less beer with more flavour than a larger quantity of bland.
If I ever feel that way, I just switch back to a nice wheatbeer (so basically any wheatbeer) and all is right with the world again.
Yep. Used to love Doombar and the like. After a diversion into NEIPA and 'craft' (whatever that means) IPA a few years ago I couldn't go back. Tried again recently and got about a third of the way down a bottle before giving up.
Can't bear any of the stuff I used to drink anymore, London Pride, Greene King, Doombar, Harveys etc, rather have nowt.

I've had too many of them myself...
binners - creme de menthe is best served as one half of a 50/50 blend with green chartreuse.
As for tasteless beers - the major brewers typically work to a price point and margin aspiration which results in (relatively) boring and bland beers.
The additional cost of producing double or triple hopped beers - including time and labour - is incompatible with...it's tuesday so we're brewing x million gallons of nnnn to sell at £y/unit then we flush the system and do the same again tomorrow.
Some'craft' beers are, IMO, undrinkable as they are focussed on the art of the possible as opposed to the enjoyment of the drinkable.
A few personal views....
German beers always taste 'clean' - possibly as a consequence of the purity laws.
Belgian beers - where to start? The range is mind boggling. Bruges Zot is one of my favourites; Lindemans are best known for their fruit flavoured lambics but the pure version - Faro - is excellent.
Neon Raptor in Nottingham produce interesting brews in small volumes which = high unit price.
Vocation in Hebden Bridge are hit'n'miss - their Imperial Kirsch choc & cherry stout @ 11% was fabulous but not listed for at least 6 months.
Interesting to note that the Anchor brewery in SanFran (think steam beer) is closing as it's owner - Sapporo - can't turn a profit on their brews; that's possibly/probably because they tried turning it into something it could never be.
That is - authentic, craft based, volume and homogenous
If you're a brewer - good luck!
I realised I feel increasingly meh about alcohol most of the time rather than beer.
The solution for me was ultra low / 0% alcohol beers.
There are plenty of decent tasting ones with none of the physiological downsides, which in my case included the half pint hangover and generally not processing alcohol well and feeling rank after just a couple.

ultra low / 0% alcohol beersmore practice needed.
FTFY 😉
Yup Drac nailed it. Doombar is crap. Now move on to some decent beer.
Funny reading comments about " craft" beer . I bought a selection box last year , it came with a leaflet describing each one , you know the sort of thing hints of pineapple , chocolate notes , unicorn tears etc etc , turns out not one of them was drinkable 🙄🙄🙄🙄
There's a pub a 10 mile pedal from me that's won CAMRA real ale SW pub of the year 30 years in a row 👍best get myself back out there I reckon.
Maybe I just prefer Cider 🤔although I tried a " craft" Cider in Canada, fizzy pop no oomph to it at all , when the server asked what I thought I said that's not real Cider she apologized and refused to charge me for it !
I found that a bit when I moved back from Oz. It used to be that I would only drink real ale and within reason it all tasted alright. Much fussier now though and drink a lot of pales / IPA. It helps one of my local interesting breweries (Arundel) does a small range of really really good classic real ale beers alongside there craft stuff.
Just replace with spirits. Same results with less effort and fewer trips to the toilet.

yep, that's been my approach since basically giving up beer about 2 years ago in an effort to reduce weight, I used to have a bottle of beer (some sort of IPA) every night, but got a shot across the bows from the GP being told I was pre-diabetic, so I cut out carbs for about two months, lost 2st, and have never gone back to beer since apart from the odd pub pint. Tipple of choice is now Talisker or Laphroig, just a drop 🙂
Can someone explain the wheat thing? What is it supposed to bring? I clearly don't have the sophisticated pallet to get it, to me it seems to introduce turbidity and stodginess yet nothing in terms of flavour. Am I drinking it wrong?
It's an early symptom of cat aids, the bad type. What bikes re we looking at and dibs on your best one?
I was working in Canada a few years back.
Drank a hell of a lot of this.

7.5% abv. God knows how I survived but it was delicious.
Experiment more.
I get a mix and match from Systemet (government beer shop) once every 6 months or so. Dozen bottles/cans of anything.
Some of it's rank, some of it goes on my list.
Interesting to note that the Anchor brewery in SanFran (think steam beer) is closing
That's sad news, I'll miss their Christmas beer (though to be fair, that's the only time I've ever drunk their beer).
I was so concerned by this thread that I've just opened a bottle of Twice Brewed best bitter brought back from our trip up north, and I'm please to confirm it tastes like beer and I like it.
If you ever fancy a laugh, their Blue Raspberry Sour is an interesting alcopop.
The answer is, of course, wine
Opened a bottle of Henry Weston Vintage while watching the World Champs glad to report it tasted as good as ever 👍
