You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Apparently they're phasing it out and I'm going to lose it
I have no idea what it is but I suspect that they tricked me into getting it once by clicking a link to what I thought might be some useful content (ResearchGate, anyone ? They got me like this too)
Anyhow, is it likely to make me lose anything I want/need if I've never actively "used" it ?
(for example, is it somehow overseeing Flickr, or all my gmail shit anything like that)?
Nah - it's separate too all of that stuff. If you don't know what it's for then you won't miss it.
No, it was there attempt at a Facebook like social network. All other services associated to your Google account are unaffected.
If you don't use it, you'll lose nothing.
ah, OK - ta !
scaredypants, I thought exactly the same as you when I got the email but just assumed I could ignore it.
From what I remember it was actually decent, just never seemed to catch on. A few mates used it for a while. It was based on "circles", so you could have your family circle, work circle, cycling club circle etc. It was bit less gimmicky maybe, which was probably its upside and downfall.
They had millions of users at one point, but a large majority of them like the OP had them ‘thrust’ upon them by virtue of having a GMail / YT account.

and if there's anything thrilling you want to keep, well, you can't. But I bet there ain't!
Am a little bit sad. Always thought it had the potential to be a Facebook or Twitter that actually worked to connect people in a useful way, but it came to the game a couple of years late.
I set up a G+ account - I only found one other person I knew who had an account, and she never used it.
It whithered and died through neglect.
You learn something new everyday, another mystery solved, always wondered what that was!
Oh well, back to myspace then...
From what I remember (correct me if I'm wrong), they tried the same trick they used when introducing Gmail - invite only to give the impression of exclusivity. It worked for Gmail as you could still e-mail anyone from your account. It didn't work for Google+ as once you had an account, you couldn't really use it as chances are you had very few friends on there. So it looked pretty and worked well, but wasn't much fun so people stopped logging in. They then (I think) tried to make it compulsory for interacting with Youtube but the damage had already been done so it faded out.
Nope. IMG post fail. That one of the whiteboard "social media explained with donuts"....
