...ideally with trails on the doorstep.
I live in the city centre of Manchester and my housemate has announced that moving in with his girlfriend of 5 months is a fantastic idea 🙄 so I need a new place to live.
I spend most of my time either in tod/hebden, the peaks or the lakes so I thought it might be a good a time as any to sack off living in the city altogether since I notice I can rent the entire house for what I pay for a flatshare in the centre.
So where's good and where's bad in the near-ish area? I need to get to South Manchester every morning when i'm not working away but traffic doesn't really enrage me too badly and works start times can be flexible.
Cheers
I'd suggest somewhere very close to the rail network (remember you can't take bikes on trams). There was another recent thread about commuting into Manchester from the Tod/Hebden direction.
Or, why not move to South Manchester. You can head out to the peaks via the Mersey Valley/Trans-Pennine Trail.
We live above Walsden train station and it's 29 minutes to Manchester Victoria. Trails out the door. Small and sleepy. Compared to the fleshpots of Todmorden just a mile down the road.
You'd probably like to rent a house in Leigh. It's out near Wigan and Warrington but a 3 bedroomed semi for £550 a month sounds great, no? Great big conservatory, gardens, drive, quiet area.
Leigh is pretty much on the junction of the M6 and M62 plus the M61 is not far away. Also on the East Lancs for quick travel into Manchester.
Sounds brilliant!

Are you an estate agent or from the council's PR dept?
Not entirely great for trails (with gradients) just outside the door.
Where abouts in South Manchester, Bacup to Droylesdon (I reallly know how to live) takes 45 to 50 minutes at 7:00 am. Consider Rossendale as well, easy to get to the trails in Calderdale, plus the Rossendale trails and Lee & Cragg Quarries. The closer you get to Calderdale up the valley the cheaper it gets. Plenty of high up housing too, our house is 1150ft above sea level, only downside is every rides finishes up hill.
i ve said it a million times Littleborough, we ve got the m62 junc 21 less than 2 miles away, we ve direct trains to leeds and manchester (every 30 mins) AND
we ve the PBW and the MTL goingthrough the village.. we ve the canal goes through the village and we ve Hollingworth lake
housing.. what you want terraces/ semis the lot starting at 450pcm nice detached only going to set you back 600pcm
there is of course an application form and aptitude test cos we dont want no southerners but other than that your dandy..
Pynton/Macc/Bollington. Lots of riding from the doorstep and lots of riding 15mins away.
Depends how 'south Manchester' your workplace is to know if you can commute by bike easily or not.
I used to commute by car+train to central Manchester easily for 5 years from Bollington.
Marple - 30 min train in to town but i am biased
Cheers for the suggestions, they're all much appreciated. I even looked at living in the Lakes and commuting but I think that's pushing it!
Works based in Sale but when i'm not in the office i'm out on site so it's not a problem where I live then, but projects are often 1 month long with 2 months in the office so it's a good idea to take that into consideration. I'll be commuting by car but the train idea in the summer months sounds good.
Thanks again and any other suggestions or advice would be excellent.
